Kirk, Bones, and Spock beam down to a peaceful and gorgeous planet, where Kirk had previously encountered a native called Tyree (played by Michael Witney) some years earlier. When Kirk sees a party, which includes Tyree, being attacked by an opposition group armed with flintlocks, he jumps in to stop the attack before it can be carried out. It's peculiar, considering that the consensus is that this society is still firmly rooted in the Bronze Age.
Spock is injured during the following mayhem, and getting him back to the Enterprise is necessary. Kirk and Bones travel back to Earth to discover more about the battle taking on there while Spock is recovering. Those troublesome Klingons appear to be up to no good once more. They managed to convince one indigenous community that they were superior to the other. They only needed to get more sophisticated weaponry.

To make a bad situation even worse, these monsters called fugato must be dealt with. Kirk gets poisoned by one of them. Nona, Tyree's wife (played by Nancy Kovack), who Bones was responsible for bringing to the tribe, is the one who saves Kirk. Nona's assistance does not come without a cost. She asks that Captain Kirk supply her with a weapon superior to anything the Hill People have at their disposal. And Nona never lacks anything she desires.
