National Treasure Edge Of History Spoilers: Episode 5

Searching for National Treasure Edge Of History spoilers? Billie, at the outset of the fifth episode, makes the same mistake as Jess and thinks the Elvis hint is about Malinche. She has more faith in her deduction than Jess, so she uses her black market connections to find out whether anybody she knows owns the Malinche Codex. When she finally locates this man, she barters the missing mosaic of Caligula for the item she needs.
Despite his initial reluctance, the guy agrees to take her to a vault on Cayman Island, where he would show her a notebook written by Hernán Cortés himself. He especially directs attention to the purported Nahuatl entries written by Malinche.

But when Billie visits Dr. Torres, the historian Jess contacted in the last episode, to translate what Malinche wrote, he shows her that the book is a forgery. He checks the journal with what is purported to be Cortés's original writing and points out the differences to Billie. Angry at being tricked, Billie storms out of the professor's office as soon as Torres announces that he has deduced that she is looking for the Pan-American treasure and that it does not exist.
While everything is going on, Jess and Tasha (Zuri Reed) suspect that Liam (Jake Austin Walker) is the one who told Billie about the Elvis hint. When Jess and Tasha uncover $50,000 in strange activity after hacking into Liam's bank account, their suspicions are further piqued. Jess is provoked into accusing Liam of betrayal due to this development. After hearing the charge, Liam grows irritated and departs. Only later do Jess and Tasha learn that Billie and her crew bugged one of Oren's shoes to learn about the Elvis hint.
Later, Jess goes to see Liam to say she's sorry. She finds out that Liam's mom sent the cash to help with the property taxes on the home he inherited from his grandpa. At Lewis' urging, Jess and Liam make up and plan to attend the Governor's Ball in Louisiana together to document the event for his diary. Ultimately, everyone decides to attend the ball together, and Meena is no exception.
Upon hearing that Jess and her pals are going to the Governor's dance, Billie swiftly deduces that the woman in the Elvis hint is actually Sacagawea and joins them. Ross, with the aid of Dr. Hudson, determines that English yew was the poison used to kill Peter Sadusky.

Until Oren and Tasha provoke Jess and Ethan (Jordan Rodrigues) into repeating a dance they performed when they were younger, everything at the ball goes according to plan. Liam and Meena appear to be feeling envious because of the performance. When the dance is complete, Liam is nowhere to be seen, and Meena looks wounded. She converses with Ethan, pointing out that he is in love with Jess. Meena asks Ethan if he is sure about the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with when he rejects it.
Jess, meanwhile, dials Liam's number but gets no response. She follows his trail to the diary's location and finds it there. While Jess enters the room, Liam sneaks out with the journal. Someone on patrol spots her and reports her to the authorities. To give Jess a chance to escape, Tasha and Oren try to distract the guards as she runs. Billie saves the day after the episode by talking Jess into getting in her car and then driving off.
Liam is one of the most trustworthy people on the program because of his background, yet he often betrays that trust with his behavior. In this scene, he blatantly disregards the potential fallout from his actions. He takes off with the diary, causing a commotion among the woman he claims to admire and her companions. He probably took the journal out of fear of getting caught. Liam presumably mistook Jess's approaching footsteps for those of one of the guards and reacted on instinct when he heard them.
