In the last minutes of the fourth episode of School Spirits, viewed on Paramount+, Maddie learns that Mr. Anderson called Claire's phone the night she passed suddenly.

The fact that Claire and Maddie no longer get along and the fact that the videotape provides obvious proof she's been working with Mr. Anderson on something both point to the possibility that Claire was involved in Maddie's death; however, the episode comes to a close without providing any evidence to support this theory. Out of all the probable people responsible, she has the most compelling incentive to come forward.
It may be tough to ascertain whether or not Claire is responsible for Maddie's death since the School Spirits may pull a quick one on everyone and make someone who is utterly unexpected the killer. Yet, she appears to be the best chance of success contender. She and Mr. Anderson are engaged in some way, and it's possible that she killed Maddie because she thought Maddie would reveal their secret to Mr. Anderson if she let her live.

While Claire had been having an affair with Maddie's boyfriend, Xavier, she decided that the best way to eliminate any potential rivals for Xavier's affection was to have her former best friend murdered. Yet, if Claire is responsible for the death of her longtime friend, she may be entirely mad, which makes the latter incentive appear rather implausible. If Claire was responsible for Maddie's death in School Spirits, the most likely motive was her connection with Mr. Anderson.
