Doug Gemmell, a nature photographer interested in avis creatures, had a fascinating experience on a morning of bird-watching when he saw a Juvenile Bald Eagle grab something from the parking lot behind him. It was an opportunity, so he waited till the eagle got low before taking some photos.

Since the man was lower than the lot and as it turned out there was a snow bank in the way, he couldn’t realize what was in the feathered hunter’s talons. By his third shot, it was just blurry white in the frame. The photographer wished he could have been only a few feet higher up the bank to figure out its prey.

Because an eagle’s diet consists of mostly fish or mice, the man supposed the bird was catching some small rodent for lunch. However, when he reviewed his photos and zoomed them out, he could see it was a half-eaten slice of pepperoni pizza. The photographer wasn’t sure if the big bird would really eat it or find another better snack, but he was certain this “pizza pirate” would fascinate his viewers.
