Top 5 Creepy Things Related to Children In Balenciaga Campaign

Late November this year, Balenciaga dropped their Christmas 2022 campaign (The Gift Collection) and Spring/Summer 2023 campaign, which featured young children carrying teddy bears dressed as bondage slaves, along with many other questionable details relating to child abuse. The hashtag #cancelBalenciaga has been trending on Twitter and TikTok in response to the photo shoot, and many people have accused the luxury brand and its creative director, Demna, of supporting pedophilia. Let's take a look at their latest campaigns to find out the creepiest things related to children that caused this controversy.

1. Children posed with teddy bears dressed in bondage and BDSM gear

This child is holding a teddy bear that wears a fishnet top with wrist and ankle restraints, which are all unsafe BDSM materials. On the left side of the photo, there is even a black teddy bear wearing a collar and blindfold. Among 6 released photos in total, only one does not include BDSM content. The bears are in fact hand-held accessories called plush bear bags from Balenciaga’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection and have appeared multiple times in their fashion show, which obviously caused this inappropriate image to a higher level of societal outrage.

2. "Toy Stories" concept, but where are the actual toys?

All photos of The Gift Collection were captured by National Geographic photographer Gabriele Galimberti. He is well-known for his "Toy Stories" project, which is a collection of kids' images from all around the world with their favorite toys. So, basically, the Balenciaga team was following this idea. However, the creepy thing is, the Balenciaga kids' favorite "toys" are wine glasses, wine flasks, and many other BDSM items. Where are the actual toys?

3. “Satanic cult” symbols everywhere

Not just the tape, there are 5 other creepy objects in this photo which purportedly Luciferian artifacts: a child's drawing of the devil on the right side of the photo, a shadowy black hood similar to those worn by "Satanic cult" members on the floor, another BDSM teddy bear with a padlock around its neck at the corner, and even the young boy's bright-red trainers look like the Devil staring at you directly in the face. Last but not least, the single candle sitting adjacent to them seems like a séance object from an occult horror movie.

4. The disturbing book by the artist who shows castrated naked children

After the BDSM bears fiasco, eagle-eyed critics began to examine the rest of Balenciaga's campaigns closely. There are two photographs from the Spring/ Summer 2023 campaign featuring a book by Michael Borremans in the background. Borremans is known for his troubling 2017 series called "Fire From The Sun". This series includes naked and castrated babies, playing both in groups and occasionally by themselves. If this is not creepy then I don't know what is.

5. The hidden child porn documents

In a different advertisement that debuted on November 21 to promote their Spring/Summer 2023 collection, the brand photographed a bag collab with Adidas. However, under the product, there are documents from the Supreme Court case United States v. Williams, which upheld the PROTECT Act.
Balenciaga was quick to blame North Six. They asserted that the production company had complete control over the photoshoot's props and that their team had guaranteed that all of the items were false. That explains a $25 million lawsuit going on between Balenciaga and set designer Nicholas Des Jardins from North Six.
Balenciaga has now removed all of the campaign photos featuring children from its Instagram and website. Demna also issued his official apology on December 2, after days of keeping silent. However, Balenciaga is still suffering criticism for playing the victim, as their constant provocation after all.
