They just want to pet Atom because their landlord won't allow them a dog.
Okay, we've got our main character (OP) dealing with some heavy stuff – on the spectrum, PTSD, panic attacks, seizures – you name it. Meet Atom, the trusty service dog, without her usual leash because her owner is already on edge, trying to navigate the world.
Our OP walks into a bookstore, hoping for a peaceful time, but oh boy, here comes the plot twist. Karen and her kids spot Atom, ask their mum if they can pet her. OP, being a pro at this, politely declines, expecting a swift exit. But nope, the mum and kids charge in, ready for some doggy affection.
OP, trying to be the chill protagonist, educates the kids about working dogs and kindly asks them to back off. But hold up, the mum drops the bomb – they just want to pet Atom because their landlord won't allow them a dog!!!
Our hero changes aisles, hoping for an escape, but the kids persist, wanting to pet Atom like it's a mission. With an anxiety attack looming, owner yells at the kids to leave them alone. Cue the mum's entrance, unleashing a tirade about rudeness and denied doggy pleasures.
Enter the store staff, heroes in this tale, telling the mum to back off as our protagonist struggles on the ground. But that's not it! Read more to find out that the staff is the only one that side with OP and there are a bunch of obvious reasons proving Karen and her kids can't clearly read.
