This Artist Gives Our Favorite Disney Characters A Realistic Touch Of Modern Magic, And The Results Can Be Darker Than We Thought

Lucas Aquino

Apart from the most recent entries, most Disney classics take place in older settings, such as a medieval kingdom or a 20th Century city. The Disney worlds are always brimming with fantasy and magic, with many aspects you can’t find in real life. Which makes us wonder, how would our fan-favorite characters from the olden days such as Cinderella or Ariel will fare in the current modern society?

Surely, there will be a ton of fun with the advanced technology for them to experience, such as smartphones, TVs, or video games. However, the harsh reality will also kick in: war, environmental pollution, domestication, or internet culture, some of which might make these characters return to their beautiful fantasy world. United Kingdom artist Tom Ward has done an exceptional job portraying these matters by putting these iconic Disney protagonists in a more modern setting, and the result can be both funny and sad, depending on how you look at it.

#1. Even Ariel is a victim of sea pollution. Just look at her fin(s)!

#2. Cinderella isn't the center of attention anymore, as Prince Charming is too distracted with his latest iPhone edition.

#3. Gaston and LeFou redeem themselves by sending a positive message.

#4. No time to be picky, Alice! It's time for you to lose some weight!

#5. Modern problems require modern solution, Baloo.

#6. There's no safe place for elephants anymore, Dumbo.

#7. If they're born in this era, our favorite Disney felines may suffer the same fate in captivity.

#8. Hey Siri, how can I pull the Excalibur out of an anvil?

#9. Peter Pan cannot visit the Darlings as frequent as he used to.

#10. It's hard being a rebel in this day and age.

#11. The only times when Pinocchio is allowed to lie.

What do you think of these Disney portrayals? Are they funny, or do they depict a darker side of our reality? Let us know in the comment.
