After months of speculation, Henry Cavill's successor is officially announced.
Following the announcement that Henry Cavill will no longer serve as the iconic Man of Steel, the chronic question remained: Who will be the new Superman? Well, we finally find out the answer as actor David Corenswet has been named as Cavill's replacement.
Fans can understand to say that the race for the new hero has been a nail-biter. There're some rumored actors for the role, including L'OFFICIEL cover star Nicholas Hoult, Tom Brittney, Michael B. Jordan, and of course, Corenswet.
It started when Cavill said he would no longer be the hero
It was a shock as Cavell revealed he would no longer be the one who wears the red cape, as his last appearance in the role was in Black Adam in 2022.
"The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that," Cavill wrote in an Instagram post."
James Gunn, the new head of DC Films told Variety in April that DC has "some really great choices" that he's very "excited" about. “The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has, but he’s also an alien,” Gunn continued. “It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug.”
David Corenswet has been named as the next Superman.
In Superman: Legacy, David Corenswet, an American actor best known for his role in the Netflix series The Politician, will make his screen debut as Clark Kent/Superman. On July 11, 2025, James Gunn's movie is scheduled for release.
This will be the third actor to take on the part on the big screen. Corenswet follows Christopher Reeve, who debuted as Superman in 1978, Brandon Routh, and Henry Cavill, who lost his job as the superhero in late 2022 after a ten-year run, much to the dismay of the fans.
The actress who will play Lois Lane has also been announced.
Superman as portrayed by Corenswet will also have a new love interest. The actress known for playing the lead in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, for which she received an Emmy and a Golden Globe, will play Lois Lane. Actresses Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor were strong contenders, but Brosnahan ended up winning the race for the coveted role.
Since then, James Gunn has defended his decisions in the public eye. They are both amazing actors and wonderful people, the director gushed on Twitter.
