Set to release this November 10, The Marvels is the 33rd standalone film in the MCU, and the last MCU project in 2023 after the TV series Secret Invasion. Consisting of not one, but three heroines as the main cast, the movie attracts a lot of gaze from fans worldwide, along with some skepticism. Brie Larson will return on the big screen as the powerful Captain Marvel in the title, while Iman Vellani and Teyonah Parris will star as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau respectively to make their box office debut. The film also features the return of Samuel L. Jackson as the iconic Nick Fury, along with Zawe Ashton, Gary Lewis, and Park Seo-Joon.
Besides the teaser trailer which was released earlier this April, there is not much information about the film’s overall plot yet. However, fans are now on the edge of their seats again, as new exclusive footage was published recently by Entertainment Weekly, which gives us a closer look at the movie’s interesting details, including the heroines’ brand-new suits. Let’s find out below.
#1. What lies in store for The Marvels?
While the majority of The Marvels are still shrouded in mystery, these exclusive photos from Marvel, acquired by Entertainment Weekly, provide us with the new look of the three protagonists: Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau/Photon. Some other intriguing details, such as the main villainess portrayed by Zawe Ashton or Nick Fury’s return, are also revealed in the shoots.
#2. The heroines’ new outfits look stunning, to say the least.
Here, we can have a clearer perspective on Denvers, Khan, and Rambeau's new official costumes. While Captain Marvel gets a more simplistic design than her 2018 and Endgame suit and a darker tone, Kamala Khan’s outfit is a huge upgrade from the comic counterpart, and has even more details than the TV series ones. The additional gold pattern is a really nice touch by Marvel.
Likewise, Monica Rambeau gets her first official superhero costume, which consists of two main color schemes black and white, which is accurate to her comic design, but a bit more detailed.
#3. The Skrulls are back in The Marvels.
In the second picture, we can see Carol in another outfit, which has a closer resemblance to her Endgame costume. However, the best part of the pic is the blurred ps of the Skulls in the background, implying they’ll return in the upcoming movie after the events of Secret Invasion.
#4. Along with Nick Fury.
Likewise, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) will also make his return to his headquarter after fighting against the rebel Skrull faction led by Gravik in Secret Invasion. We can see that the Avengers director has given up his unkempt look and hairstyle for more formal attire.
#5. Photon displays her power.
Monica Rambeau gains her power after going through the Hex, which was created by the Scarlet Witch in WandaVision, thrice. As the Hex rewrote her already altered cells, Rambeau’s reflexes are greatly enhanced, as she also gains spectral vision, and energy absorption, and can even phase through projectiles. In this photo, we can see Rambeau shoots an energy beam out of her left palm.
#6. Kamala in her room full of posters.
In real life, Iman Vellani is also a huge Marvel fanatic, who never misses a single release of her favorite comic books, or doodles of Marvel villains on her sneakers. It’s really a dream comes true for the young star, as now she’s part of the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe. We can see how Vellani is a perfect fit to play Ms. Marvel, who’s a huge Avengers aficionado, and has a bunch of superheroes posters in her room as shown here.
#7. A behind-the-scene shoot, with director Nia DaCosta and Vellani in the background.
“If you don’t know, ask Iman Vellani.” As a Marvel enthusiast herself, the young actress knows every nook and cranny in the MCU and the comics, and her vast knowledge impresses even the most seasoned staff.
#8. Zawe Ashton is the main villainess of the movie.
In The Marvels, Ashton portrays Dar-Benn, an elite Kree General, who becomes the Kree Empress in the comics. In this picture, we can see Ashton holding a hammer just like Ronan the Accuser’s, while leading a Kree army into battle.
#9. Goose the Flerken is back to cause even more chaos.
Though his screen time in Captain Marvel is brief, Goose still manages to capture the hearts of the audience (and the lives of the enemy) with his sheer adorable feline outlook and his ridiculous prowess. He’s also revealed to be the one who took Fury’s left eye, so to see the two’s interaction in the sequel would be hilarious.
#10. A conversation between Captain Marvel and Miss Marvel.
At the end of the Ms. Marvel series, the young heroine accidentally swaps places with Carol Danvers, which sends Captain Marvel to her family’s house, and Kamala into space, as she freaks out seeing Goose in action. Some fun interactions are bound to happen between the two in the movie. Brie Larson also gives Vellani some words of admiration, as she’s amazed by the latter’s extensive knowledge about Marvel comics and movie details.
"I've just learned to trust Iman because she really has her timelines in order,” said Larson in disbelief. "She's the one that's always schooling us. I wouldn't know how old Carol is without her. She really does the math."
