The Exorcist: Believer's Release Date, Cast, Trailer, And Everything We Know

The rebooted movie will hit theaters on October 6, 2023, as one of the most anticipated horror titles for the Halloween season. It was originally scheduled to release on October 13, but was moved up a week to avoid the competition from the concert movie Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.

After Believer, Universal already made plans for the sequel, The Exorcist: Deceiver, which is set to be released on April 18, 2025.

The most notable appearance in the upcoming movie is Ellen Burstyn, who will reprise her role as Chris McNeil from the 1973’s The Exorcist. Chris McNeil is easily one of Burstyn’s best roles, earning her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Now, Chris will return to help a family with a possessed daughter - as she’s the only one who had experience dealing with one.

Another star performer in The Exorcist: Believer is Leslie Odom Jr. as Victor Fielding, the father of a possessed child in the movie. This time, there’s not only one, but two girls who are possessed by a demon, and they are portrayed by the young Lidya Jewett and Olivia O’Neill.

Some other actors in the movie include Ann Dowd, Jennifer Nettles, and Norbert Leo Butz. The latter two will play the parents of the remaining possessed kid. Some of the characters in the movie haven’t been named yet.

So far, Universal and Blumhouse have released two trailers for the upcoming movie. The first trailer, which is three minutes long, was publicized on July 25, 2023. It reveals plenty of spine-tingling jump scares, while also featuring the return of Ellen Burstyn to the franchise.

The second trailer was released on September 5, giving us a detailed scene of Chris MacNeil meeting a possessed girl, At the end of the trailer, we can hear the demon whispering: "One girl lives, one girl dies. You get to choose."

The movie will be released exclusively in theaters worldwide. After the theatrical release ends, you can watch it only on Peacock, Universal’s streaming platform.

Just like the original film, all the Exorcist titles so far solely focus on rescuing a possessed p (usually a young girl) from a demonic spirit. The Exorcist: Believer will be a tad bit different, since this time the priests will have to save not one, but two possessed damsels in distress.

Two young girls from two different families, Angela and Catherine, all got possessed by a mysterious demon, and Chris MacNeil has to once again face the otherworldly beings to save them. The two trailers have already shown several gruesome scenes that remind us of the 1973 classic. Blum has this to say about the movie in an interview:

“I want to make a movie that works for both [audiences]. I want to make a movie for people that know and love the first Exorcist and are furious that we’re doing this, but somehow drag themselves to the theater. I want them to come out happy. And I want to make a movie that people who’ve never heard of The Exorcist really enjoy. I think David did that with Halloween. I think he’ll do that with The Exorcist also.”

Continuing the story of the first movie, The Exorcist: Believer is expected to be yet another horror sensation in the Halloween Box Office after The Nun II. The much-anticipated movie is only a couple of days away from reaching your local theater, so make sure to purchase your tickets as soon as you can.
