One of the terrible experiences is the feeling when your stomach growls because of hunger but you have nothing to put into your mouth. There will be moments when all we need is just a slice of bread or anything that can ease our hunger. However, while humans can seek help from other people or social organizations when they are hard up, other species have to manage to live on their own. In the case of the Siberian Husky called Willow, he was determined to survive, even if that meant he had to chew and swallow stones and soil.
"I decided to turn around, and the dog was sitting there just giving up, barely moving," Letourneau said. "It was just starved to death and needed something warm."
Eilleen really believed that if the men hadn’t passed by and stopped to help Willow, she would have died within a day. She weighed only 33 lbs (or 15kg), less than 20 ibs (9kg) compared to the weight of a healthy 2-year-old husky.
Willow seemed to love water so much that she went for a swim whenever she had a chance. "Her foster mum has to coax her out with treats so that she doesn't get too wet and catch a cold."
The sweet husky finally had a forever home on March 16th. “We were fortunate enough to find a family who has experience with this breed, and they're so happy to include Willow as a new, furry family member," Maple Ridge SPCA assistant branch manager Faydra Nichols said.

The miserable pup was discovered by two warmhearted people who passed by and saw her on the side of the road in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, in January 2015. Mathieu Letourneau and Guillaume Lefevre were unsure if the animal they saw was a dog, a wolf, or a coyote at first. However, no matter what the creature was, they decided to stop and help."I decided to turn around, and the dog was sitting there just giving up, barely moving," Letourneau said. The poor pup sat transfixed there as if she had no power to do anything or respond to anybody. The kind men realized how skinny the dog was and offered her their Subway sandwich. Then they loaded Willow into their car and brought her to the Maple Ridge Society for the Prevention of Animal Cruelty (BC SPCA). After the checkup, everyone was startled to know that the poor husky had been eating rocks and sticks to fill his empty belly.Source: BC SPCA
"When she first came in, she was unable to lie down due to abdominal pain caused by rocks and soil in her gastrointestinal tract," said Eileen Drever, a BC SPCA senior animal protection officer. "There were no food remnants in her stomach, so we think she was eating gravel to try to stay alive."Eilleen really believed that if the men hadn’t passed by and stopped to help Willow, she would have died within a day. Her health assessment was only 1 out of 9 on the Canine Body Conditioning Scale. After figuring out that Willow’s old owner was a university student in his 20s, the Crown Council prosecutors is now in charge of this case and will decide on the man’s penalty. As for Willow, she was taken into a foster family and had a chance to heal and thrive again.Source: BC SPCA
"She absolutely loves going into the water – it's hard to keep her out!" wrote the BC SPCA. "She loves going to the river, where she tries to go for a swim, no matter how cold the water."Willow seemed to love water so much that she went for a swim whenever she had a chance. It took a month and a half for Willow to gain 20.5 lbs (or 9.3kg). She enjoyed spending time with her foster family and loved heading out for a stroll or car rides. The sweet husky finally had a forever home on March 16th. “We were fortunate enough to find a family who has experience with this breed, and they're so happy to include Willow as a new, furry family member," Maple Ridge SPCA assistant branch manager Faydra Nichols said.
