In a headline that has sparked curiosity and ignited public interest, Hollywood's beloved actress, Sofía Vergara, has finally broken her silence and responded to Joe Manganiello's recent divorce filing. The fiery Latina beauty has decided to take matters into her own hands, asking the court to uphold the prenuptial agreement that has been at the center of their legal battle.
Fans and followers of the famous couple have been on edge, eagerly awaiting Sofía's response, and she did not disappoint. With a mix of determination and grace, Sofía is determined to defend the prenup, a document that was meticulously crafted to safeguard their individual assets before they tied the knot.
#1. Divorce announcement
Manganiello, 46, and Vergara, 51, announced their intention to divorce after seven years of marriage in a joint statement shared with Page Six on July 17.
"We have made the difficult decision to divorce,” the couple stated. “As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect for our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”
Manganiello filed for divorce two days later, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the couple's split. Manganiello stated that the couple divorced on July 2 and that they had a prenuptial agreement.
Manganiello met Vergara at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in 2014 through her Modern Family co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson. He proposed in December of that year, and they married in November of the following year.
They have no children together, but Vergara is the mother of Manolo Gonzalez, 31, whom she shares with ex-Joe Gonzalez.
#2. Relationship was on rocky ground for some time
Despite their mutual love and respect, a source previously told PEOPLE that the Modern Family star and True Blood alum "differ immensely in style and what they like to do, although, during the marriage, each tried to put the other's interests ahead of their own to make it work."
The couple had also been experiencing "ups and downs for a long time," despite "always putting on a good front publicly." A source told PEOPLE on the same day Vergara responded to Manganiello's divorce filing that the actress was "doing excellent" in the midst of the divorce news.
"She is sad that her marriage didn’t work out, but she feels very fortunate anyway," the source said. "She has a great life that she loves. She is staying at her house for now. Joe is living elsewhere."
The status of their relationship has taken social media by storm recently when Vergara was spotted celebrating her 51st birthday in Italy without the presence of Manganiello and her wedding ring. This happened just a few days before the news was confirmed.
Although the True Blood star didn't spend time together on that days, he made a birthday tribute celebrating his estranged wife on Instagram: “¡¡¡Feliz Cumpleaños Sofía!!!.” He wrote alongside a picture of the former couple celebrating one of Vergara’s previous birthdays.
