Reese Witherspoon has been featured in over 40 films throughout her decades-long career, but the 2001 flick Legally Blonde is still one of her most iconic and loved works. It spawned a sequel, Legally Blonde 2, as well as a lesser-known spin-off. People are still hungry for more, and the actress is eager to reprise her role as Elle Woods. But one condition must be met before that can happen.

In an interview, the American actress discussed the third installment of the Legally Blonde film series, which was confirmed by Witherspoon herself in a now-deleted Instagram post. She also stated how important it is to her that Jennifer Coolidge be a part of the project. "There is no Legally Blonde 3 without Jennifer Coolidge," Witherspoon said of her co-star, who played manicurist Paulette Bonafonté in the first two films in the franchise.

Witherspoon also gushed about Coolidge's recent success. “I’m beyond myself about Jennifer Coolidge,” she stated. “She deserves every one of those flowers she is receiving right now. And she’s just one of those people who is so naturally gifted and funny and that you can just tell people love her, ’cause she gets up there and everybody’s like, ’I love her,’ but she’s just done a lot of good work in our business for so long, that it’s really nice to see her getting this incredible moment.”

Coolidge, who is currently riding a wave of success after receiving widespread critical acclaim for her role as Tanya McQuoid in the series The White Lotus (for which she won a Golden Globe), is excited to join the cast of Legally Blonde 3. The 61-year-old actress, however, has yet to receive an official invitation to participate in the project.
“I know nothing, I mean I don’t know if they wanted to surprise me or something, ’cause I hear about it a lot,” she admitted in an interview. “I heard that Mindy [Kaling] has this amazing version of our next round, but I haven’t seen it. I don’t have the call yet.”
Nonetheless, Mindy Kaling, The Office star and Legally Blonde 3 writer, has stated that Coolidge's character has already been written into the new script and that the actress will "1,000%" return for the next installment.
