She first arrived at a Pasco shelter as a stray before making her way to the Benton Franklin Humane Society in Washington, not long after that. With her endearing personality and playful spirit, Polly quickly caught the attention of potential adopters.
However, her dream of a permanent home was cut short when, after just a couple of weeks, she was returned due to compatibility issues with the family's cat. Despite the family's efforts, Polly struggled to find harmony with her new feline housemates, and it all led to her heartbreaking return to the shelter.
Julie Saraceno, a shelter volunteer, shared that Polly's ideal home would be one where she can bask in undivided attention as the sole pet. Moreover, as Polly is a brachycephalic breed, she also requires an owner ready to address the unique challenges associated with dogs having shorter heads and flat faces. This feature might include potential breathing issues.
Despite the setback, Polly is adapting well to shelter life. Saraceno noted that Polly is always good at handling the shelter's hustle and bustle.
"She does pretty well with shelter life," Saraceno said. "Like any dog, I think she doesn't love how noisy it gets. And she really comes to life when she's outside her kennel. She loves to run around and play, and she particularly enjoys her back being scratched."
