A dachshund-Chihuahua mix born deaf and blind in a Georgia home with 37 other puppies in a hoarding situation was rescued and sent to a shelter. When he weighed only 1 lb, Melissa Shapiro, a Connecticut veterinarian, decided to foster him. As a cute and sweet puppy, he was so bright pink that his mama always joked he was a piggy baby and named him Piglet.

Piglet became No. 7 in Shapiro's pack of pups, but his transition into the new home was never a piece of cake. The pinky puppy was scared all the time and needed a handful of special vet care and looing-after chores that could exhaust any pet owner. However, after two months of fostering Piglet, the dog mama found it was no longer possible for them to part away from each other.

Shapiro believed her woofing angel lived for something greater and began to tell his story on social networks about how Piglet had been fighting disabilities and discomforts and was always happy by giving and receiving affection and never surrendering.

It has been four years. Piglet isn't a pink furry newborn anymore. He becomes a bigger white dog who loves to play with kids and inspires numerous young girls and boys to overcome harshness with friendship, family hood, acceptance, and compassion. Piglet is also the prominent face of the Piglet Mindset Outreach program to teach children how to face challenges by imagining what he would do in the situation.
