Do you enjoy stories about love triangles? If so, “My Life With the Walter Boys”, a latest hit from Netflix, might be the perfect choice for you. Premiered in early December 2023, the film has garnered significant attention, especially from young audiences and romance genre enthusiasts.

It's quite easy to come across videos about this movie on social media platforms, particularly TikTok. Viewers have divided into two main groups: Team Alex and Team Cole, sparking lively discussions about who deserves the protagonist's love.

Details on the film

Since its debut on December 7, over 20 million people have tuned in to watch the young adult romance series “My Life With the Walter Boys” on Netflix.

Based on Ali Novak's 2014 novel, the series follows Jackie, an orphaned teenager who leaves Manhattan to live with her godmother and the godmother's 10 children, known as the “Walter Boys,” in rural Colorado. Jackie finds herself drawn to both Alex, the bookish one, and Cole, the charming yet angst-ridden one, as they all share a life together on a farm.

The movie hit over 1 billion views on TikTok, and fans, whether they're Team Alex or Team Cole, are creating video tributes called fan edits. In these posts, they share clips that make their favorite character look good—doing kind things, staring lovingly at the main character, or just being attractive. The videos often have moody music in the background. TikTokers are having a blast expressing their love for the characters and adding more excitement to the online buzz about the movie.

In the comments of these fan tributes, users discuss their reasons for supporting one love interest over the other. One popular TikTok, with over 10 million views, features a scene where Alex makes coffee for Jackie after she decides to sleep in. However, when he goes to her room to deliver it, she's not there.

Fans understand that, at this point in the show, Jackie chose to be with Cole instead. For Alex's supporters, it feels like a betrayal, and the song “Traitor” by Olivia Rodrigo plays in the background of the video. On the other hand, Cole's fans see it as a significant victory.

On the other hand, many think that Alex deserves Jackie’s love because of hí kindness. One wrote, “He had a hangover BUT STILL GOT UP AND MADE HER BREAKFAST IN BED is why one of the reasons why I am team Alex he is so good to her.” Cole's fans also turned up. One wrote, "Yes I'm team Cole but I feel bad for Alex," while another simply declared that Alex gives them "the ick," or an inexplicable bad feeling.

While the TikTok video itself serves as the initial attraction, it acts more like a conversation starter than a definitive statement. The comments section becomes a central space for fans to engage in discussions. As they publicly declare their loyalty to a particular character on social media, they inadvertently contribute to the show's promotion, attracting even more viewers.
