If you think that barn owls are dumb creatures who never know how to be tender, you are wrong. A photographer has captured some photos of two owls sharing a very affectionate moment to show that even owls do feel and express emotions just like us. They use their eyes, beaks, voice, and body language to communicate with each other.

Owls are renowned for their solitary nature, so it is exceedingly rare to witness two owls together, let alone observing a pair of these magnificent birds of prey engaged in a tender kiss. However, a stroke of luck smiled upon a fortunate photographer hailing from the United Kingdom, who recently had the privilege of encountering such an extraordinary sight. Leslie Arnott, armed with a camera, managed to capture a series of a truly romantic rendezvous between two barn owls within a quaint village in Staffordshire, UK.

“They are quite hard conditions in the dark woodland, and the pair flew for a while before sharing their special moment,” the photographer said. “They started rubbing heads and getting quite affectionate. Then came the moment they appeared to kiss each other. ’They ‘kissed’ twice…a moment I have never witnessed before or since.”

According to the photographer, the two majestic birds spent approximately two to three minutes on a tree branch, expressing their affection towards one another, before taking flight.

What adds further intrigue to this captivating encounter is that these two birds are not actually mates; rather, they are sisters. As for the innocent kiss they shared, Leslie believes that an explanation for it may remain elusive for the foreseeable future. "The two owls are incredibly affectionate towards each other and work in harmony. However, they are not a breeding pair," Leslie explained. "In fact, they are sisters."
