Cyrus intimately shared the turning point that signaled the end of her marriage. Reflecting on a profound moment in her life. When it comes to the performance at Glastonbury Festival in the UK in June 2019, she shared “I just want to slow down because this is actually serious.” She added, “the day of the [Glastonbury] show was the day I had decided it was no longer going to work in my life to be in that relationship.”
She then opened briefly about her past marriage with Hemsworth and its significance. "Me and Liam’s commitment to being married, of course came from a place of love first because we had been together for 10 years, but also from a place of trauma and just trying to rebuild as quickly as we could,” Cyrus explained.
The couple had experienced a tumultuous journey, dating on and off since 2010 before tying the knot in 2018. Their decision to marry came after their Malibu home was devastated by a fire.
In August 2019, Liam Hemsworth took the step to file for divorce, making their separation official. Miley Cyrus was aware of the importance of balancing fame and relationships. “That was another moment where the work, the performance, the character came first,” she shared. “I guess that’s why it’s now so important to me for that not to be the case — that the human comes first.”
In 2020, Miley Cyrus publicly spoke the massive media attention on herself and Hemsworth post-split. “What really sucked about it wasn't the fact that me and someone that I loved realized that we don't love each other the way that we used to anymore,” she said. “That's okay, I can accept that. I can't accept the villainizing and just all those stories… there was a lot of time that you didn't see.”
