Searching for M3GAN movie spoilers? Many will be taken aback by M3GAN. Trailers and lighthearted online buzz have led many to believe this film will be another Child's Play-style murder fest featuring a robotic killer doll with lifeless eyes. And it's fine, we'll accept it. It is that, to some extent. But the remainder of the movie is immensely more serious and sorrowful, resulting in a slightly uneven but enjoyable experience.

#1. M3GAN Movie Spoilers: Comprehensive Recap

M3GAN Movie Spoilers Source: M3GAN
M3GAN is a Gerard Johnstone film based on a narrative by Akela Cooper (Malignant) and James Wan (Saw, Insidious). Considering that Jason Blum and James Wan are involved in the film's production, it's easy to assume that it will be a standard, commercially successful horror picture. But the opening two sequences of the film are extremely different and profoundly affect the viewer. Cady (Violet McGraw) is a little girl we meet after a terrible event claims her parents' lives.
The loss compels Cady’s aunt Gemma (Allison Williams) to become her guardian, which is not something Gemma was planned for professionally, or ready for personally. Before Cady came into her life, Gemma worked on something unique at her job at Funki, a toy firm specializing in inventive robots. If you guessed correctly, you're correct. M3GAN.
Although M3GAN (short for "Model 3 Generative Android") is introduced early in the film, Cooper and Johnstone focus mostly on Cady and Gemma's plight. The film tackles Cady’s loss and loneliness, Gemma’s hidden resentment, and the tense relationship all of it spawns. The demands of Gemma’s supervisor at Funki (Ronny Chieng) are also a persistent issue. After seeing that medical professionals couldn't help, Gemma decided to introduce Cady to M3GAN.

Their instant compatibility and friendship seemed ideal. Now that Cady has someone to talk to, Gemma sees cash signs in her experimental AI doll's endless potential. The trailers don't show much of that, and rightfully so. It's possible that moviegoers won't be prepared to deal with heavy topics like bewildering loss, inescapable responsibility, or corporate greed if they sit down to watch a film about a crazy killer doll.
Of course, the point is to help the spectator connect with the characters and set M3GAN apart from the films it owes so much. Both are effective to some degree, but the film's legacy and audience expectations cast a long shadow. One would reasonably question, "When is this going to get fun?" in light of current events. There are glimpses of M3GAN's plot inside those more serious tale elements. The nod of the head in understanding. Odd change in wording there.
And then, after a somewhat longer delay than one might wish, things accelerate at an ever-increasing rate. Later on, M3GAN provides us with a few stunning horror moments that will have you covering your eyes and laughing out loud. While the subject matter of M3GAN is undoubtedly serious, the film takes a comedic approach to the tragedy it depicts.

Given the film's PG-13 rating, there isn't a lot of graphic violence or gore; instead, the horror is campy and unsettling, with just the right amount of comedy to lighten the mood. This is much appreciated since it counterpoints Cady and Gemma's tragic and emotionally taxing travels. The movie quickly shifts to the opposite end of the spectrum, and M3GAN keeps improving as it progresses.
At this point in M3GAN, you might as well be watching a whole other film. After giving one's whole attention to the unforgiving facts of life, liberation from that concentration is like removing a heavy burden. The fact that we've spent the first half of the film getting to know and like these individuals helps a little, but ultimately, you can't shake the feeling that the movie was holding back some of the best parts.
And there's no denying the quality: it's excellent. The M3GAN series finale is hilarious, horrifying, and well worth it. In retrospect, it's frustrating that the film doesn't use that more. The events of M3GAN are both an examination of real-world atrocities and a violent murder rampage led by a killer doll. There are lessons to be learned from every aspect of the film, but when compared to the actual tragedies, people face daily, the absurdity of the film's escapist rings truer.
