In the latest episode of Law & Order, Congresswoman Kristin Bartell discovers her husband, Dr. Ryan Bartell, dead in their home with multiple lacerations on his head, likely caused by a desk lamp. There are security cameras around the house. The time of death is estimated between 10am and noon.Detectives Cosgrove and Shaw investigate the case. During their interview with Kristin, she suspects that the murder could be related to her political views and the threats she has been receiving, including one threatening to kill her in her own home.
The detectives track down the owner of the IP address that sent a threatening email to Congresswoman Kristin Bartell. The culprit is a drag queen who volunteers to read to children and disapproves of Kirsten's bill to ban exposing children to drag queens. However, he has an alibi for the time of the murder.

Meanwhile, traffic cameras detect a car belonging to Paul Koening multiple times near the crime scene on the morning of the murder. When found at Sycamore coffee shop, Koening denies any involvement and claims he was planning a peaceful protest outside Kristin's home. DNA testing does not match him to the crime, and without the security footage, Dixon orders his release. The detectives arrive at Kirsten Bartell's home to retrieve security footage of the morning her husband was murdered. Unfortunately, Kirsten claims the camera was shut down as he sometimes sees patients at home for privacy reasons.
They then head to Ryan Bartell's office. They discover his several meetings with someone identified only as TM, including one on the day of the murder. Suspecting an affair, they review the footage from the first meeting with TM and identify a boy named Taylor Myers. He is a seventh-grader struggling with mental health issues.

Detectives question Taylor Myers about his relationship with Ryan Bartell, but he claims not to know him and was only selling gift cards. However, they discover that he had been meeting with Susan Bartell, Ryan's sister and a school counselor. It turns out that Taylor had been requesting Ryan's help in providing gender-affirming care to Taylor, as Taylor is trans. Ryan had been administering hormone blockers to Taylor without his parents' knowledge, which Cosgrove and Shaw consider unethical. While Taylor's DNA doesn't match the crime scene, the markers indicate a close relative, leading them to suspect Taylor's father, Robert Myers. They later found that Taylor's father have scratches on his arms. As a result, he is taken into custody.

Robert Myers is on trial for second-degree murder. During Shaw's testimony, he cites the scratches on Myers' arms as evidence against his claim of self-defense.Kristen Bartell then reveals to Price and Maroun that she knew about Ryan's treatment of Taylor and Myers' previous threat to kill him. However, Kristen is hesitant to testify due to her career. During the trial, Kirsten takes the stand and testifies that Ryan had a heated meeting with the Myers family about two months before his death, during which Myers was screaming and threatening him. Price also discovers that Taylor's mother gave consent for Bartell to treat her son.
Mrs. Myers admits in court that she used a forged signature from her husband to help Taylor get treatment, due to her fear for her child's mental health. Myers' lawyer calls Taylor to the witness stand, but after consulting with McCoy, Price and Maroun offer a plea deal to avoid putting Taylor through the trauma of testifying in front of strangers.
In the end, Myers receives 15 years in prison, which absolutely angers Kirsten. She accuses Price of choosing politics over justice, as this outcome makes the world a less safe place for children like Taylor.
