With the DCEU coming to an end, fans are eager to see what kind of magic James Gunn and Peter Safran will bring to their rebooted DC Universe, starting with their first official movie Superman: Legacy which is set to release on July 11, 2025. The duo has already made some big changes to the movie’s main cast, starting with the power couple Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Henry Cavill and Amy Adams won’t reprise the role, as the two characters will be portrayed by David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan.
Quite recently, Gal Gadot, who’s reported to reprise the role of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman in the new DC Universe as well, has finally made some comments regarding Superman’s shocking change of guard. Let’s hear what the actress has to comment about Corenswet’s casting as the new Man of Steel in the DCU.
#1. Gal Gadot shared her opinion on the new Superman casting.
Speaking with Comic Book just before the current SAG-AFTRA strike, the Fast and Furious star shared some of her thoughts about Supes’s recast. At the time, Gadot had heard about the actors who made it to the final audition round, but wasn’t sure who’d be James Gunn’s final pick. However, she believed all of the final candidates were worthy enough to fill the hole that Cavill left behind.
"I saw that they were testing, doing different screen tests, but I don't know who got it, but it seemed like everyone was super legit and talented and, like, great. So I'm happy for them. It's such a huge take-on and it's such an exciting beginning to any actor, and I wish whoever it's going to be the best of luck and enjoy the ride." The actress recalled.
#2. Corenswet and Brosnahan are the new Superman-Lois Lane of the DC Universe.
Along with David Corenswet, more candidates which included Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney were selected into the final round of audition, with Corenswet coming out on top. Similarly, Rachel Brosnahan also ousted other potential contenders to claim her role as Superman’s loved one, Lois Lane.
The audience’s initial reactions to Corenswet’s casting were positive, as the 29-year-old shares many resemblances to the iconic comic character in terms of outlook. Many even claimed that Corenswet was born to play the Man of Steel, and you can find multiple fanarts on the internet which seamlessly put the American actor into the iconic red-and-blue suit.
#3. Gal Gadot and Henry Cavill’s DCEU adventure so far.
Before Corenswet, Henry Cavill took on the Superman role in the 2013 Man of Steel title, and featured in various other DCEU projects, such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Justice League (2017), and Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021). He also made some smaller cameo roles as Supes in Shazam! (2019), Black Adam (2022), and The Flash (2023).
Playing Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot also starred alongside Cavill’s Superman in Dawn of Justice and the two Justice League movies. The character also has two solo titles in the DCEU, Wonder Woman (2017) and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), however, a third part was ultimately halted as director Patty Jenkins stepped away from the project.
#4. The actress will be back for Wonder Woman 3.
Following Superman and Batman’s recast and Jenkins’s departure, many believed that Gal Gadot will suffer the same fate soon, but the actress has recently confirmed that she will work with James Gunn and Peter Safran for a potential Wonder Woman threequel. This means, Gadot’s place is almost secured in the new DC Universe.
While there is no further news about Wonder Woman 3 just yet, many believe the threequel will be set up by the TV series Paradise Lost, which is part of Gunn’s Chapter One in the DCU. The show will tell the story of the Themyscira Kingdom before Diana was born. The actress has also expressed her love and gratitude for playing the role of Wonder Woman, stating that the Goddess of Truth is “close and dear to her heart”.
