Speck, a 2-year-old pup, arrived at the Bullock County Humane Society in 2018 after being surrendered by his previous owner. For a whole year and a half, Speck quietly sat in a small kennel at an Alabama shelter, waiting for a family to choose him. You might expect a street-smart, tough dog, judging by the scars on his face, but Speck was nothing like that. He was incredibly trusting and sweet.
During his stay at the shelter, Speck developed a heartwarming routine that drew the attention of all visitors. Whenever someone approached his kennel, he eagerly pushed his face between the bars and extended his paw, seeking the affection he so desperately wanted.
“Speck LOVES human interaction! He cannot get enough love from anyone willing to stop and take his paw or rub his belly. He knows how to pull at your heartstrings when you busy. He pushed his muzzle through the bars of his kennel looks out with his puppy dog eyes, and reaches for you to hold his hand. Speck’s love language is defiantly physical touch.” shared Desiray Miracle-Wilder, the director of The Bullock County Humane Society.
Even when there were other animals around, Speck remained focused on receiving love from people. “You could put anything else around him—another giant dog, a cat—but he is just so fixated on getting love from people that he doesn’t care about anything else,” Wilder said.
The pup's primary goal was clear: to find a loving family and a forever home. He would happily snuggle with anyone, providing them with unconditional affection in return.
Recognizing Speck's deep longing for a loving family, Wilder recorded a heartwarming video of his paw-holding gestures and shared it online to promote his adoption. As expected, the moment hit her Facebook page, and everyone was moved. The video gained popularity quickly, receiving an astounding 96,000 views in just a few days.
