Following James Gunn’s new DC Universe, all eyes are on his first-ever standalone movie in the rebooted franchise, Superman: Legacy. Set to release on July 11, 2025, the much-anticipated movie already caused a huge uproar, as Gunn replaces Henry Cavill and Amy Adam with David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as the new Superman and Lois Lane, respectively.

DC fans initially can’t help but feel skeptical about this major casting change, as they believe Henry Cavill is the best contender for the role, however, David Corenswet has also shown signs that he’s the perfect replacement to play the Man of Steel.

A recent leaked image on Reddit shows that the actor has put on quite a bit of muscle compared to last year. Let’s take a look at the footage below to see how Corenswet has changed himself for the better to be ready to play Superman in the new DC Universe.

#1. David Corenswet bulks up quite a bit for Superman: Legacy.

Following a Reddit post made by u/lawrencedun2002, a behind-the-scenes showed Corenswet with his back to the camera, and just with a quick glance, we can see how the performer looks way bulkier than his last year's self.

While standing at 6’4, Corenswet isn’t the muscle guy type, and has a rather lanky build for his previous films. However, in this picture, it seems that the actor has put on quite a bit of muscle on his shoulder and his thighs.

This sudden physical change of Corenswet is considered a good sign by DC fans, as it seems that he’s getting ready to star as the Man of Steel, as Superman: Legacy will start filming in 2024. In both the comics and live-action movies, Clark Kent always wears a tight spandex suit which complements his muscular build and abs, so it’s a given that the actor needs to build up his body as well before the production.

#2. About Superman: Legacy, the foundation for James Gunn’s DCU.

Superman: Legacy is the second official title in James Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe after the animated series Creature Commandos in 2024, and the first to come to the silver screen. The film is expected to cover both sides of Kal-El’s life on Earth: the civilian life where he’s known as Clark Kent, a reporter apprentice at the Daily Planet, and his superhero persona Superman.

While the main antagonist of the film is not yet confirmed, it’s rumored that Lex Luthor will be featured as a secondary bad guy, with Nicolas Hoult the most prominent candidate to play the character.

The character list in Superman: Legacy is already packed with several superheroes appearing alongside Clark Kent, with Guy Gardner Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, and Metamorpho being confirmed to be in the movie. Therefore, fans believe that the main villain must be at least Doomsday-level strong to be a worthy opponent for Clark and the rest of the squad.

#3. Why Corenswet is the best candidate to play the Man of Steel.

Besides the build, Corenswet already has the look of Superman, as many believe he has the perfect facial features similar to Kal-El from the comics. Several DC fans have made some edits to put the actor in Supes’s iconic blue-and-red suit, and the result is even better than they imagined.
