Blind Cat Leads Rescuer To Her Kittens’ Place Right Away, Knowing That They’ll Be Saved

There's one thing that's true for all moms, whether they have fur or not – their love for their babies is simply unmatched. This is particularly true about our story today of a blind cat who, driven by her strong maternal instinct, guided her rescuer to a special place where her beloved kittens eagerly awaited their rescue. It was clear that she couldn't leave her precious babies behind, and that determination finally led them all to a heartwarming memory.

It all began when an elderly couple noticed a stray cat wandering around their house. When their son focused his attention, he could see that the cat's eyes were crusted shut severely.

Surprisingly, this poor blind cat wasn't just searching for a loving home; she was on a courageous mission to rescue her precious newborn kittens. That’s why she led the son to a special destination right away, where her tiny, helpless kittens were snuggling. Immediately, the son, realizing he had to step in, contacted Corpus Christi, Texas' Coastal Bend Cat Rescue (CBCR), for assistance.

Mary Huckabee, an officer with CBCR, shared, "He contacted our rescue for help. At the time, the cat was thought to have bad eye infections that sealed her eyes closed."

After that, the rescue welcomed Clue, the blind cat, and her kittens and offered them a safe place in a foster home. After being carefully tested, the furry family was diagnosed to have a lot of health challenges, likely because of the harsh conditions they endured while living as stray animals. Two of the kittens were malnourished and showed symptoms of an upper respiratory infection.

Veterinarians then discovered that Clue had no typical eye tissue, rendering her completely blind. Despite her blindness, Clue's maternal instincts were unaffected, and she cared for her kittens with unwavering love.
Clue loves nesting in her new comfortable bed, and her babies are always nursing contentedly in her belly. Mary noted, "Our vet thinks she has congenital microphthalmia, born with very small or absent eyes. She will need enucleation to prevent recurrent infections. Being blind doesn’t bother her at all. Mama Clue was very protective of her babies."
Under proper medical care and the comfort of a safe environment, the kittens began to thrive, gaining weight and growing stronger. Clue made sure her kittens were returned to her loving care after each medical treatment or weigh-in. Occasionally, she'd be confused when one meowed from an unexpected spot.
However, as the kittens grew more active and curious about their surroundings, Clue reluctantly accepted that her babies were ready to explore. Although she initially tried to carry them back to her designated safe zone, she eventually realized it was a losing battle.

Over time, Clue transformed into an affectionate kitty who enjoyed human company, taking pleasure in belly rubs and head scratches. Mary shared, "She starts making biscuits as soon as her foster mom enters the enclosure."

Clue's adjustment to indoor life was remarkable, considering her previous life as an outdoor cat. She quickly mastered using the litter box and reveled in her newfound life of comfort.

The entire furry family flourished in their foster care, and each of them revealed their unique personalities. Mary once talked about kitten's characteristics, "Candyland is sassy and likes to talk. She is the most adventurous of the kittens. Monopoly is a laid-back girl who enjoys rolling around and getting belly rubs. She's also practicing her pouncing skills on her sisters. Chutes and Ladders, initially the most standoffish, now eagerly climb into her foster mom's lap."
In the end, we’re so happy knowing that after years of surviving outdoors and enduring hardships, Clue finally accepted the advantages of indoor life, and so do her babies. Her worries about food, shelter, and danger were replaced with safety and the love of her family.
