Beneath The Ice: Stunning Pictures Of Lake Baikal’s Seals (16 Pics)

Emma Ackerman

Baikal, the largest freshwater lake on earth, is also one of the world's deepest and clearest bodies of water. Baikal is also well known for housing a variety of endemic plant and animal species. Here, seals are a common sight, and they are the main reason why wildlife photographers visit the lake every year.

Dmitry Kokh, a wildlife photographer who specializes in photographing large marine animals, has made it his mission to locate and photograph Baikal seals in their natural habitat—underwater. Dmitry Kokh wants to portray the true beauty of this magnificent animal, despite the fact that the goal is challenging and only a few people could complete it.

Three years ago, he made his first attempt at completing this challenge, but he failed. However, he did not give up, and in 2022, when the Siberian spring was beginning, he tried again. This time, he succeeded. His dream images of Baikal seals have been captured, and they are incredibly alluring. Following this is a collection of 16 wonderful photos the author took while he was on a trip to discover the true beauty of nature.
