Adapting the legendary ongoing manga by Japanese author Eiichiro Oda, the Netflix live-action series will set sail this August. Last week, the famous streaming platform released the first teaser trailer, which created a huge uproar in the One Piece fandom. The trailer gives us a glimpse at the character’s initial design and casting choice, and we must say, Netflix and Tomorrow Studios have really outdone themselves. Teenage actor Iñaki Godoy looked great as the Straw Hat leader Luffy, while Arata MacKenyu, Taz Skylar, Emily Rudd, and Jacob Romero Gibson all nailed their respective characters.
The trailer overall and the casting choices gain some favorable reactions from fans, and it is quite a good start for the series. Besides the main cast, Netflix also revealed some more additional actors to play the side characters from the manga, which include Koby, Alvida, Helmeppo, Arlong, Buggy, and Garp. These characters didn’t appear in the trailer, but we’ll soon get to see their performance on screen in the span of two months/ For now, let’s take a look at these live-action casting choices made by Netflix, and see how close they resemble the anime version of One Piece.
