Life can be pretty tough for our furry pals sometimes, but it rarely changes their loving nature. Take Sherio, for example. His past was a real struggle—abandoned, lonely, blind, and deaf. That's a lot for any pup to handle, right?
But guess what? Sherio is a shining example of how to stay lovable and positive, no matter what. Now, Sherio lives in a happy, caring home, and he's on a mission to help other foster animals feel safe and secure. He knows for sure how challenging it can be for animals to find themselves in a new environment, and he's determined to change that.
Let's get to know this wonderful hero, and we can assure you that meeting him is as enjoyable as discovering a little bundle of joy.
Sherio did not have an easy life. He faced numerous rejections along the way because of his special difficulties—he is partially blind and deaf. He spent time in shelters, hopped from one foster home to another, and was even adopted four times, only to be returned each time. It was surely not easy, but Sherio's wonderful characteristics led him to the loving care of Sheryl Smith.
Smith, known for her kindness to abandoned animals, saw something special in Sherio. She welcomed him into her family and accepted him just for who he was, even when he had disabilities and everything else. And this actually marked a turning point in Sherio's life.
Grateful for the love he found with the Smith family, Sherio made it his mission to share that happiness with other animals who had faced hardships similar to his own. He's a furry guardian, providing support and affection to the animals Smith takes under her wing, giving them comfort through gentle licks and warm kisses.
Sherio's empathy extends beyond the typical bounds, like when he stepped in to nurture a litter of puppies from a sick, pregnant dog. His strong bonds with other rescue animals, especially stray cats and kittens, are heartwarming. Trust comes easily to these animals when they're around Sherio.
Smith said, “He will just sit patiently with the feral cats/kittens and bonds so strongly with them, they trust him before they trust me.”
However, Sherio still struggles with separation anxiety every day while living in a safe and loving home. This is evidence of his challenging past. And, perhaps, one of the most touching reminders of his struggles is his fear of being left behind.
