15 Celebrity Marriages That Only Lasted Less Than A Year

Many of us love to follow the latest news on celebrity marriages, especially when they involve two of our beloved stars. However, we know that all marriages are difficult. And it appears to be especially difficult in Hollywood, where star couples frequently fail to stand the test of time. When Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner announced their divorce, many were upset since their decade-long marriage appeared especially strong by Hollywood standards. But, like so many other couples, their romance was shattered by scandal, and the erstwhile power couple split up. These celebrity marriages lasted less than a year.
Some Hollywood couples defy the norm by staying together for the long term, such as Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks, while others adopt a completely different strategy and were over in the blink of an eye. These couples, in particular, are frequently cited as examples of celebrity culture's fickle, frivolous side. #1 Carmen Electra And Dennis Rodman – 9 Days

Carmen Electra and NBA star Dennis Rodman's brief relationship began in Las Vegas in 1998, after the couple had only been dating for a few months. But it all ended fast; Electra filed for divorce in 1999, telling Oprah Winfrey, "Ours was a passionate love. It was fantastic when it was good. And when it was bad, it was really horrible."

#2 Bradley Cooper And Jennifer Esposito – 4 Months

Cooper married the NCIS actor in a low-key ceremony in the south of France in December 2006, before his celebrity was truly born. Esposito filed for divorce on May 1, 2007, citing irreconcilable differences; Cooper's rep highlighted in a statement that the two actors had been separated for "quite a while." Cooper spoke up about the quick separation in 2011, claiming, "It was just a random occurrence... The good news is that we both realized it."

#3 Kid Rock And Pamela Anderson – 4 Months

Everything came to an end after Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson were married for four months. Though there were reports that they divorced because the musician was envious of Anderson's role in Borat (true story), he later told Howard Stern that they were battling with money issues and family trouble.

#4 Chad Michael Murray And Sophia Bush – 5 Months

Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush met on One Tree Hill as love interests and fell in love off-screen as well. The pair married in April 2005, only to divorce by the end of the year, despite the fact that they still had to work together. Later, in an interview with Andy Cohen, Bush said that she only married Murray at the age of 21 because her coworkers put pressure on her.

#5 Nicolas Cage And Lisa Marie Presley – 3 Months

Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley first met at Johnny Ramone's birthday party 17 years ago, in 2000. They fell in love right away and had an on-again, off-again relationship. However, after a while, the couple decided that enough was enough and decided to marry. And so they married in an August 2002 wedding in Hawaii.
Cage had filed for divorce by November. Presley supposedly then stated that they should never have married in the first place.

#6 Jennifer Lopez And Cris Judd – About 7 Months

Jennifer Lopez is currently engaged to be married to baseball legend Alex Rodriguez, but one of her most memorable romances was with dancer/choreographer Cris Judd... Sadly, this resulted in a marriage that was never meant to be. They married in September 2001 after meeting on the shoot of Lopez's music video for "Love Don't Cost a Thing," then announced their divorce in June.

#7 Mario Lopez And Ali Landry – 18 Days

Lopez and Landry married in a romantic ceremony in Mexico in April 2004, after dating for six years, only to divorce just over two weeks later. Years later, Lopez verified the claims that the breakup was caused by him cheating on Landry during his bachelor party. In his 2014 memoir, he claimed, "I got inebriated and a little too friendly with a young lady," "When it was time to go home, the truth struck me like lightning: I wasn't in love. But, in any case, I walked down the aisle. Ali was understandably upset and enraged."

#8 Eddie Murphy And Tracey Edmonds – 2 Weeks

Eddie Murphy and producer Tracey Edmonds divorced in January 2008, barely two weeks after they married in Bora Bora. The kicker is that they'd never actually completed the paperwork to be legally married, so "getting divorced" was primarily just a matter of not having a legal ceremony.

#9 Renee Zellweger And Kenny Chesney – 4 Months

Is it only us that forgot about this whirlwind Hollywood romance? Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney called it quits four months after their beach wedding in May 2005, filed for annulment, and cited "fraud" as the reason. Though this appears to be a controversy, Zellweger later emphasized that it was simply a legal word and that fans should not interpret it too broadly.

#10 Colin Farrell And Amelia Warner – About 4 Months

Though she is now married to Jamie Dornan, musician Amelia Warner was formerly Colin Farrell's wife. She was 19 when they married in Bora Bora in 2001, and the marriage lasted barely a few months. And, like Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds, who married in Bora Bora, their wedding was not legally binding.

#11 Elisabeth Moss And Fred Armisen – 8 Months

Elisabeth Moss, star of The Handmaid's Tale, was briefly married to Saturday Night Live veteran Fred Armisen, but their love didn't last. The couple was briefly married for eight months between 2009 and 2010, and Moss revealed to New York Magazine years later that it was a terrible time for her.
"Looking back, I feel like I was really young, and at the time I didn't think that I was that young," she told the publication in 2014. "It was incredibly upsetting, unpleasant, and horrible. At the same time, everything worked out for the best."

#12 Jim Carrey And Lauren Holly –10 Months

Carrey's relationship with Dumb & Dumber co-star Holly became public shortly after he and his first wife, Melissa Womer, filed for divorce in 1993. They married in a low-key, mountain-top ceremony in September 1996, then whisked a few buddies away for a group honeymoon. They divorced less than a year later, in July 1997, as Holly began dating another of her co-stars, Edward Burns; Carrey soon moved on with Renee Zellweger.

#13 Kim Kardashian And Kris Humphries – 72 Days

The only other exceedingly short marriage that may have gotten as much attention as Spears and Alexander's was that of Kim Kardashian and former NBA player Kris Humphries. Kardashian and Humphries divorced 72 days after their lavish wedding was broadcast on E! However, it took another two years for the divorce to be finalized.

#14 Drew Barrymore And Tom Green – 9 Months

Drew Barrymore married comedian Tom Green in 2001, but their marriage ended six months later. However, it appears like these two are on good terms these days. In September 2020, he even appeared on her chat show.

#15 Britney Spears And Jason Alexander – 55 Hours

Britney Spears and Jason Alexander, a childhood friend she famously married in Las Vegas in 2004, have that privilege. The pair were married for barely 55 hours before getting an annulment, which Alexander told ABC News he only did in the hopes that they would still date. Bummer!
