Think a true comic book fan would never question the incredible ingenuity of the creators, regardless of the genre? Certainly! Numerous paper and digital comics were turned into successful films that swept the globe. You have just missed one of the greatest animation creations of all time if you’re using the Internet to read online comic strips but keep skipping over any page that suggests reading “Off the Mark”! Are you curious? Let’s explore this series and its father’s, Mark Parisi, artistic journey together!
Mark Parisi is a 60-year-old cartoonist living in New England. Since the artist was old enough to grasp a crayon, he has always loved doing art. The best sources of inspiration for his cartoons came from the works of Gary Larson, Charles Schulz, and MAD magazine. He now finds inspiration in a wide range of things, including pandemics, pop culture, and pets. He switched majors quite a few times at Salem State University before settling on graphic art. Paul Newman, the Dixie Chicks, "Weird AI", and Yankovic were among those to whom Mark sincerely expressed his gratitude for using his comics in their works. In 1987, Mark Parisi’s first creative endeavor was launched and named “Off the Mask”. In addition to magazines, greeting cards, and T-shirts, it is now printed in over 100 newspapers. The series teaches us about lighthearted comedy, visual jokes, and jokes that apply to our wittily lived lives. The artist was the recipient of the “Best Newspaper Panel” and “Best Greeting Cards” awards from the National Cartoonists Society in 2008, 2011, and 2017, respectively. He is currently working with author Kim Tomsic on a middle-grade book, The Truth About 5th Grade, and other projects, including official Garbage Pail Kids sketch cards.
