Lions are adorable. They look exactly the same as our in-home cats, maybe a little bit bigger. However, despite the fact that they might have a lovely appearance, lions are aggressive animals, and people may be attacked if one is nearby. Because of this, we do not often see this wild animal on a daily basis, and it is truly amazing to see a lion running through a street full of people. Unexpectedly, there was a case of a lion wandering the streets. One can easily imagine how terrified the walkers were at the time, and numerous calls were made to report the situation. To everyone's surprise, a funny truth was revealed when 911 arrived at the scene.

One night in Norfolk, Virginia, 911 received an emergency call telling them that there was a lion on the loose. The call said, “I’m driving down Granby Street right before the zoo, and there was a lion that ran across the street, a baby lion!”

This was followed by other calls with the same contents. “I just saw an animal that looked like a small lion. It had the manes and everything.”

In order to find out if any lions had escaped, the police called the Virginia Zoo in the area. However, the zoo assured them that all of the lions were present and doing well. Norfolk Police Department Spokesperson Karen Parker-Chesson spoke to ABCNews.com about that interesting night, “We wanted to be sure that there was no wild animal or no animals on the streets.”

Surprisingly, it was revealed that the lion that people had been seeing was actually Charles the Monarch, a local business owner's Labradoodle dog.

It turned out that the dog’s hair was cut and groomed specifically to resemble a lion, the mascot of the nearby Old Dominion University, where the owner's daughter attended.

“I go to Old Dominion University, and our mascot is a lion, and we have a local zoo right here also,” Natalie Painter, the daughter of the dog’s owner, told ABCNews.com. “He was walking around, and he does look a lot like a lion. So I guess some concerned citizens thought there was a lion.”

Charles the Monarch has become famous in the area because of his distinctive appearance.
