Bitter Discussion Over Woman Calling Police For Dog Trapped In Car On Sweltering Day

Owning pets means that you need to take responsibility for them. While animals like cats could be left alone without much worry, leaving an active dog home is totally different. As dogs are social animals, they must be outside and run around an open space. Lock them behind the door and you would likely see a mess when you came home after work. Therefore, some people keep dogs in their cars when they are at the office.

In dog days of summer, leaving dogs in a car is an evil action, especially for breeds from cold regions, like in the Reddit thread below.
A user known as u/lurkeymclurkerface1 took her situation to the subreddit AmItheAsshole to reassure her decision, but she received divided opinions from netizens. The woman was heading to the garage when she spotted a car with a Husky inside. On a day of 83 degrees, she felt terrible for the dog with only a water bowl in front of him. She raised a Husky on her own, so she believed the dog could not feel comfortable in a cramped car.

After hanging around 20 minutes, the poster determined to look for assistance from the police. A police officer came there an hour later, but he was not of much help. Because he saw the dog panting, he looked for the owner to get the whole picture. The dog owner was a man working nearby, and he stated he brought the dog along for the sake of it. He asserted the dog preferred staying in the car to being at home, and he never did that when there was a heatwave. Besides justifying his action, the man seemed annoyed by the Redditor, so he shamed her for her shape.

After listening to the man’s explanation, the policeman concluded that he would not intervene in this case. Eventually, the poster left without achieving her purpose of helping the dog.

Under the post, many commenters rallied behind the Reddit user. They thought the dog owner was wrong when leaving his dog in a car on a hot day. Some suggested she call animal control in similar cases if the police could not help. They noted that in some states, it is legal to break car windows if you see an animal suffering inside the vehicle.

Some laid into the dog owner for his irresponsibility and childish response. They believed he shouldn’t have adopted a pet if he couldn’t take care of it properly. The public also threw a fit since the policeman didn’t help the poor dog.

Nevertheless, there are some people opposed to the poster’s acts. They claimed the dog would be fine as the car was in the shade, so the Redditor's overreaction was irritating and unnecessary.
