Emotional Supporting Dog Versus Allergy: Reddit Can't Choose Who To Pick And Who To Kick Out

Carolyn Mullet

Dogs and horses have been acknowledged as helpful animals that can be trained to be service providers for people with physical and mental disabilities. As a consequence, more dogs are going to appear daily in public as well as in social communities. It causes another trouble for people who are not fans of canines. In particular, the ones who have allergies to animal furs or have PTSD (standing for post-trauma stressing disorder) involved dogs or for some reason can't comfort themselves with dogs staying near will probably have to struggle to deal with canines more and more often popping up. That's when some truly conflagrating incidents took place, one of which was shared by a woman with her Reddit account u/aita-bnbdog. Please read below to get more details on her circumstance!

The original poster revealed on the viral subreddit r/AmItheA**hole that she had been having CPTSD followed by severe nocturnal nightmares. She had adopted a dog named Lucy, who surprisingly could help her handle night terrors, thus they were hardly ever apart from each other. The past weekend, she accepted her friends' invitations to go to a rented pet-friendly residence for their vacation without hesitation.

When the OP arrived with Lucy, without warning, they found an unacquainted member allergic to dogs, so she offered several solutions but was wholly rejected. Therefore, she had to leave the dog outside at night and ended up with nightmarish screams that woke everyone up twice. The next morning, they blamed her for ruining their trip and voted to kick her home. After that, she got no reply from them even though she had sent tons of apologies.

Redditors parleyed all over the place in the comment section below the post. They couldn't find an opinionated unification of who should be shameful in the situation. The offensive ones pointed out that the OP shouldn't have brought her dog when she didn't ensure she wouldn't cause trouble to others, let alone her dog wasn't trained and certificated as a service provider. They didn't accuse her of messing up on purpose, yet she couldn't run away from her mistake.

On the opposite side, the defenders weren't persuaded by blaming the OP and her dog. They demanded the trip's hosts take the whole responsibility. Plus, they concluded that the group of OP's friends shouldn't be addressed themselves as "friends" since they had not acted like ones. Furthermore, they advised her to get Lucy certificated without having her sent to trainers because she was already able to give aid frequently and flawlessly.
