Many people have a coworker whom they despise. Sometimes it's a case of personalities clashing or a clear disparity in interests and views. But what if you're obliged to like your coworker? Is it really your obligation to act as though you adore that person?
Everyone enjoys a good love story, with the exception of performers who find themselves cozying up to co-stars they loathe. A lot of the time, these on-screen romances are just a show for the cameras and nothing more. In reality, when the camera stopped rolling, these on-screen couples—who appeared to admire one another—couldn't bear each other. These experts took their acting skills to new heights when they had to pretend to admire someone they disliked.
With that being said, we have compiled a list of 28 on-screen couples who most likely didn't get along after the cameras were off. Also, we apologize for ruining your favorite movies.
#1 Bill Murray and Lucy Liu, Charlie’s Angels

Even though these two didn't portray a real couple in Charlie's Angels, you wouldn't realize that tension and awkwardness burned bright behind the comedy and lightheartedness. Bill Murray refused to return for Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle because his off-screen conflict with Lucy Liu in the original movie was so intense. To be fair, it's been reported that the two had reconciled, but not enough to reunite on set.
#2 Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, The Vampire Diaries

Co-stars Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder dated for three years when The Vampire Diaries was airing. The two also had a romantic relationship on the show, in case you didn't watch the series. You can therefore imagine how embarrassing it was when they actually broke up. There are rumors that the divorce wasn't a happy one. Of course, Dobrev subsequently left the show and claimed in interviews that they maintained a professional and cordial relationship.
#3 Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep, Kramer vs. Kramer

Hoffman may appear charming, but while filming, he was basically an a-hole. Dustin wins the award for biggest dirtbag, for slapping his Oscar-winning co-star and making fun of her for her recently-deceased partner.

#5 Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis, Some Like It Hot

The actors were already in a relationship before they started filming, but Curtis claimed that at one point Monroe allegedly lost her mind and compared kissing her to "kissing Hitler."
#6 Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray, One Tree Hill

The couple first connected during Season 1, and were married two years later, but Bush ended the marriage five months later after realizing Murray was an adulterer. Sophia had to endure four more years of working with him, which was regrettable.
#7 Charlie Sheen and Selma Blair, Anger Management

Selma Blair had described him as a "menace" to deal with, but it didn't fly because Sheen was the star. Blair was let go soon after Sheen threatened to resign. There is still no love lost, but we believe Selma profited from that leave.

Despite the fact that the two legendary actors appeared in one film together, Hopkins didn't care for MacLaine and called her "the most irritating actress" he had ever worked with. Gosh.

As The X-Files continues, it is evident that they have moved past the instances in which they "couldn't bear" one another, but it is still astounding that they were able to collaborate for so many seasons.

Swayze described Grey as foolish and immature in his autobiography, saying she would occasionally get into ridiculous moods and make them repeat sequences. She appeared to be unusually sensitive, occasionally breaking down in tears when someone criticized her. They put aside their differences and then reconciled.

Given that Gosling and McAdams could not stand one another, it was easy to portray their on-screen altercations. However, given that the two continued to date for two years after production was finished, whatever happened on the set of The Notebook stayed on the set of The Notebook.

One of the first big plotlines on the hit television series The Big Bang Theory was the will-they-won't-they relationship between Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki). Galecki and Cuoco dated off-screen, proving that life often imitates art, but their relationship quickly ended, and Cuoco moved on with equestrian Karl Cook. She made it a point to highlight her new connection at every chance, and a rift started to develop with Galecki, her ex-boyfriend. Though the ensemble appears close-knit while filming, things are anything but after the lights go out. It has been reported that the cast as a whole considers the cheerful blond on screen to be a bit of an egomaniac.

In 2015, when Jason Alexander appeared as a guest on The Howard Stern Show, he made news by admitting that he was responsible for Heidi Swedberg (who was his fiancée on Seinfeld) being written off the show. Her character was killed off as a result of him telling Stern he couldn't play off of her acting style, a feeling he claimed the rest of his famous cast also shared. He expressed some regret for his comments, saying that she was generous and gracious and that he was mad at himself for retelling the story in anyway that would demean her.

You'd think after spending eight seasons playing detective Kate Becket (Stana Katic) and mystery author Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion) together on television that the two would be close. Contrary to popular belief, these two could not stand one another off-screen while having what appears to be serious chemistry on-screen. There have been rumors that Katic's animosity toward Fillion was the cause of her departure and the show's subsequent cancellation. To their credit, neither has publicly addressed the "feud" though.

There was no romance between Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp when the cameras stopped rolling, despite their on-screen romance. Both A-list celebrities had different opinions of the other: Jolie thought Depp was a snob, and Depp thought Jolie was a bit of a hot mess. Unsurprisingly, the two had disagreements throughout the 2010 movie's production.

The actress accuses her former co-star Brando of touching her on the set of their 1967 movie in her memoirs. Despite the fact that she made it very obvious he should keep his hands to himself and he did, the atmosphere at work became uncomfortable after that.

Actor Jay Mohr took a jab at Picture Perfect co-star Jennifer Aniston in a 2010 interview with Elle. He said the starring actress was dissatisfied with his presence and made it known from day one, but he wouldn't say whether he was referring to her. She would exclaim "No way", "You've got to be kidding me" to other co-stars in between shots. Loudly. It was supposedly so bad he would go to his mom's place and cry.

When working on 2017's Vacancy with Wilson, Kate Beckinsale reportedly found it difficult to put up with what she perceived to be his "diva behavior" on set, noting his party boy habits as one of the things she found most irritating.

In 2016, Charlize Theron spoke candidly about her turbulent relationship with Mad Max co-star Tom Hardy, saying the movie became what it is because they struggled so much with one other, and those characters also had to struggle so much with each other. The movie might have been ten times worse if they had been best friends.
