Parenting is not a subject to learn. It's also not the same as managing an MBA project or learning to play a musical instrument. There are several unknowable hidden variables that parents have no knowledge of or control over. Kids come into the world with a lot of unique traits—whether inherited or just the result of chance. Parents may not be entirely conscious of the own luggage they carry into the relationship with their children. We know “lousy” parents whose kids turned out great as well as caring, loving, and nurturing parents who spent a lot of time, money, effort, and emotion on their children even if they had very challenging childhoods and adult lives.
Recently, one dad came into the r/AmItheAsshole subreddit to ask the members of this group for their opinions after his family and his friends were calling him abusive. His post quickly went viral. In the post, he wrote, “Last year, my daughter decided to go vegan. I didn’t have any problem with this one bit.” For some reason, his 16-year-old son took this change as an opportunity to abuse his sister, which clearly upset the parents. After one such incident, the parents felt like their son had crossed the line in mistreating his sister, so they decided to discipline their son appropriately. That indicated a recently introduced menu that caused the child to completely lose his mind.
And the dad wonders whether he was wrong or not for making my son eat vegan for a month as punishment. Redditors claimed that he was not a jerk and that what he did was right. How about you? What do you think about the way that dad handled this problem? Scroll down to check out the entire story. And don't hesitate to share your opinions with us in the comment section below.
