Dog Allergic Woman Was Called "B*tch* For Rejecting A Service Golden Retriever to Get On A Flight

Carolyn Mullet

Service dogs have been acknowledged as a vital service for people with disabilities in many countries. In addition, all around the world airlines have already allowed certificated service animals to get on board as decent passengers. Even though most people agree with the law, others with animal-related diseases don't speak the same words. A Reddit user u/Additional-Plant-843 questioned under the topic AITA (r/AmItheA**hole) whether she was wrong to demand another passenger with her service Golden Retriever dog get off the plane because she couldn't stand the dog.

Here's the whole context!

The OP was going to have a vacation. When she boarded, she saw a service dog in the cabin. She informed the flight attendant that she was severely allergic to dogs (without showing any proof). She found it fatally dangerous to fly with the dog so she wanted them to get off. The flight attendant offered her a first-classed seat taking off two hours later but the OP turned her down.

The Golden Retriever had to take another flight while his owner was resentful towards the OP. The woman desperately explained how important it was for her to fly back home to visit her sick family member. She even yelled at the OP and addressed her as "heartless". Back to her seat with her friends, she was called "biggest b*tch" by a strange woman sitting nearby.

Reddit's majority found the OP disgusting. They wrote down several explanations to show how detestable she had been. Firstly the OP didn't have legalized medical proof for her illness. Secondly, even if she truly did have a severe allergy to dogs, she should have apprised the airline. Thirdly, the OP was the one that had to get off because she had the trouble herself and her vacation was less emergence.

Few comments supposed that the OP had the right to ask for a solution in that situation though she was a little bit overreacted. If she forgot to inform the airline earlier and the dog might be deadly to her, it was reasonable for her to speak up. They just didn't know why she rejected the first-classed seat for being early for only two hours.

The other people doubted the story's realism and some gave advice for similar situations. For the airline they expected, in these resemble cases, the service animal should be prioritized while the allergic one must take another no-pet flight. If the allergic one had the urge to fly right away, he/she would have to compromise and take the risk himself/herself. In that circumstance, wearing a mask, gloves, and trying to cover your whole skin area as well as an exchange to as far as possible away from the animal seat would be necessary.
