Reddit Criticized Family Who Offended Their Neighbor For Not Keeping Track Of Their Loose Dog

As a dog owner, you are responsible not only for your own dog's basic necessities, but for their health and safety. However, some think watching their dogs is not their responsibility. Like the mom and her kids in this Reddit post, they let their dogs run free and then blamed their neighbor for not keeping the dog from escaping when it wandered into his yard. Scroll down to read the full story and how Reddit reacted to it!
The story was posted on the subreddit AmItheAsshole by the poor neighbor (OP) who goes by the name u/_uneven_stevens_. He shared that the loose dog wandered into his yard, so he tried to grab him and walked him to find his owner. Sadly, no one recognized the dog or knew his owners. He had no choice but to bring the animal back to his house, attached him to a dog lead. When the OP went inside to get food and water, the dog was gone.

4 days later, the dog owners showed up at OP's door and asked if he had seen their dog. He shared he saw the dog, but unfortunately he got away shortly after he found him and he hadn't seen him since. The mom said ok and left.

Everything was still good until the kids came back and asked to check exterior facing cameras. "They very accusingly said "My mom said you have cameras and if that's true you need to show us the video of him leaving." I informed them that I saw their dog 4 days ago and my cameras only save about 24 hours of footage before overwriting itself. They left, and the mom came back to my house also demanding the footage, to which I explained the same thing."
The mom tried to blame OP for not keeping their dog. She replied with "Well the neighbors said you had him." OP then responded with "I don't have your dog, and your dog is not my responsibility to keep track of." She told him "Thanks for nothing, asshole." and left.

OP then edited his post to share more some information: "They live a few doors down and I haven't seen them before. This is the first time I've ever seen these people. There are no "lost dog" posters anywhere in the neighborhood, and no posts in our neighborhood Facebook group or Nextdoor. It appears no effort was made to look for the dog at all until now."
Needless to say, most Reddit users sided with OP and criticized the mom and her kids for harassing OP. They even advise OP to save the video of her and her kids harassing him in case he needs to deal with them.
