There are a lot of unsolved disappearances happening around the world each day. Some even dated back to the 1900s. Even some celebrities have gone missing over the year.
Especially for celebrities. Lots of celebrities have gone missing over the years, never to be seen to be heard again. But that hasn’t stopped people from wondering what has happened to these famous people.
These people already have a dedicated fanbase that follows their every move.
Therefore, their disappearances incite lots of curiosity from fans. Some even go overboard with their conspiracy theories, ranging from cult sacrifice to alien abduction.
And the world is fascinated by these mysteries. Dozens of theories pop up every day about where these people are, what truly happened, and whether they are still alive. So, here are the most famous celebrity disappearances, ranging from athletes, and politicians to singers and actors.

#1 Photojournalist Sean Flynn

Sean Flynn, the son of actors Errol Flynn and Lili Damita, went missing in the 1970s while traveling overseas. Sean, 28, and a group of journalists were in Ho Chi Minh City, then known as Saigon, for a government press conference.
Sean and photographer Dana Stone went on foot near the forest line to check out a lead on Viet Cong approaching and were never seen again. Lili spent a large portion of her income hunting for her son, who was ruled legally dead in 1984.

#2 Australian Prime Minister Harold Holt

On December 17, 1967, Harold Holt, Australia's former prime minister, went missing while swimming in Portsea, Victoria, at Cheviot Beach. A search and rescue operation was launched, but his body was never found. He was thought to have accidentally drowned.
A memorial ceremony was conducted five days following his abduction. Ironically, the government eventually named a swimming facility after him: the Harold Holt Memorial Swimming Centre.

#3 Canadian Rapper Forrest Schab, a.k.a. DY

Canadian rapper Forrest Schab, better known as DY, went missing in August 2010. He was in Mexico at the time of his disappearance while filming his music video.
On November 18, 2010, his family and team formally reported him missing. No leads have been found so far. Fans theorize that foul play is related.

#4 Michael Rockefeller

Michael Rockefeller, the son of New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller disappeared in the rainforests of New Guinea in November 1961 while visiting the local Asmat tribes.
Despite a two-week search and a witness who claimed to have seen him swimming in the water, his body was never discovered. His reported cause of death was drowning. Conspiracy theories vary from kidnapping by native tribes to even shark attacks.

#5 Lover Boy Bassist Scott Smith

Scott Smith, a Canadian bassist, was famous for his work with the rock band Lover Boy until he went missing at sea. In November 2000, the band had recently finished a charity concert for Juvenile Diabetes Research in Vancouver, Canada, when he decided to sail from British Columbia to Mexico on his yacht with his fiancée and a friend called Bill Ellis.
They looked for Smith but were unsuccessful. Smith was tossed into the river when a wave capsized the boat. Teams looked for Smith for many hours before calling it quits due to inclement weather.

#6 Famed Pilot Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart was a world-renowned pilot who undertook the first female circumnavigation of the globe in an airplane. However, on July 2, 1937, during the longest stretch of her voyage, she, her plane, and navigator Frederick Noonan went missing.
A short time later, they were declared lost at sea and were never seen again. Some say she went down in the Pacific Ocean around Howland Island, which would have been just north of her goal, according to History Today.

#7 American Politician Thomas Hale Boggs Sr.

Thomas Hale Boggs Sr. was a Democratic Party politician. He formerly represented New Orleans, Louisiana in the House of Representatives and served as majority leader. The politician went missing in the 1970s while campaigning for Alaska's Nick Begich.
Boggs Sr. was flying from Anchorage to Juneau in a tiny plane on Oct. 16, 1972, when he went missing. along with Boggs, Begich, Begich's assistant Russell Brown, and pilot Don Jonz were with him. Despite several search attempts by the Coast Guard, Navy, Army, and Air Force, they were never seen again.

#8 Aaron Burr’s Daughter Theodosia Burr-Alston

Aaron Burr is the third Vice President of the United States under President Thomas Jefferson. But did you know Aaron's daughter, Theodosia Burr-Alston, went missing at sea? Theodosia sailed from Georgetown, South Carolina, to New York on the ship Patriot on December 31, 1812.
The ship, as well as its passengers and crew, were never seen again. Aaron assumed she died in a shipwreck, but others suspected pirates were involved in her abduction.

#9 Manic Street Preachers Guitarist and Songwriter Richey Edwards

Richey Edwards, guitarist, and composer for Manic Street Preachers, went missing in February 1995. He was 27 years old. Although there were various theories surrounding his disappearance, his widely acknowledged drug and alcohol usage led people to suspect he committed suicide.
Other suppositions suggested he staged his disappearance in order to live a life free of celebrity. Despite being pronounced "presumed dead" in 2008, Edwards is still classified as a missing person, according to authorities.

#10 Basketball Star Bison Dele

Bison Dele, born Brian Carson Williams, was an NBA center. He played for the Orlando Magic, the Denver Nuggets, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Detroit Pistons. In 1997, Dele, his fiancée Serena Karlan, captain Bertrand Saldo, and his brother Miles Dabord set out from Tahiti aboard a catamaran on July 6, 2002.
Authorities uncovered suspected bullet holes that had been patched on the boat not long after. On September 5, 2002, police in Arizona executed a sting operation to apprehend Dabord. The FBI still believes he murdered his companies and dumped their bodies overboard in the Pacific Ocean.

#11 Child Actor Joe Pichler

Joe Pichler, a child actor who appeared in two Beethoven films in the 2000s, went missing on January 5, 2006. He was 18 years old at the time. According to his relatives, authorities discovered a letter in his car stating that he wants to be a "stronger brother."
Based on the message, it was assumed he committed suicide, but his corpse was never located.

#12 Boxer "Sweet Jimmy" Robinson

Jimmy Robinson was a Miami, Florida boxer. During his career, he was the fourth person to fight Muhammad Ali professionally, and the two became friends. He conducted his last interview for Sports Illustrated in 1979.
Then, in 2009, ESPN journalist Wright Thompson released an in-depth look at his six-year search for Robinson, which was fruitless. There is no information on his present whereabouts.

#13 Singer-Songwriter Connie Converse

Connie Converse was a pioneer in the singer-songwriter music genre in the 1950s. She struggled with depression and burnout, according to relatives and friends. Converse addressed letters to her loved ones just a few days after her 50th birthday in the summer of 1974, stating that she wanted to start over.
She put her possessions into her Volkswagen Beetle and drove out from her home in Michigan. Since then, her family has not heard from her. Philip, her brother, feels she committed suicide.
