The Most Annoying Relationships In Marvel Movies So Far

Elise Feyrer

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been filled with healthy, collaborative romantic relationships since 2008. T'Challa and Nakia in Black Panther, for example, feel like true equals, with a familiar relationship handled organically. Similarly, Okoye and W'Kabi's relationship is one of the most dynamic in the MCU, as neither of them is prepared to compromise their values for love.
However, there are some irritating relationships in the MCU owing to a lack of chemistry, an actor walking out of a role, or a couple that just don't make sense. This isn't to argue that the Marvel cinematic universe didn't have fantastic source material to work with - there are plenty of healthy love relationships in the Marvel universe, but many of them fail to translate well to the screen. And below are the ten most annoying relationships in Marvel movies so far.

1. Steve Rogers And Sharon Carter

Because Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter's romance is perhaps the best almost-love story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, rooting for Sharon Carter – Peggy's great-niece! – feels sacrilegious. Steve is likewise less interested in Sharon, but after finding she is connected to Peggy... at Peggy's funeral... he becomes increasingly intrigued by her. Fans do not need to see Steve move on with Peggy's cousin.

2. Thor And Jane Foster

Jane Foster appears in the first two Thor standalone films as Thor's love interest before disappearing from the MCU forever. Natalie Portman, who played Jane, is said to have been displeased with the franchise's decision to cut ways with Patty Jenkins during the filming of Thor: The Dark World. As a result, Portman and Jane Foster left.
Jane's absence is explained the same way Pepper Potts' is: an off-screen breakup. The situation is handled carelessly. Many fans, however, argued that Jane and Thor lacked the chemistry to begin with, so they were simply relieved to have it resolved off-screen.

3. Peter Parker And Liz Toomes

The relationship between Peter Parker and Liz Toomes is an example of charming young love. However, it's difficult to feel thrilled about a love affair that isn't going to last. Zendaya was cast as Michelle, who goes by the nickname "MJ," and any Spider-Man fan knows that Mary Jane is Peter Parker's long-term love interest. Michelle will most likely be a reincarnation of Mary Jane, and Liz Toomes will be gone. But, hey, that's how it goes with youthful love sometimes.

4. Bruce Banner And Natasha Romanoff

Their chemistry could be interpreted as either romantic or amicable in The Avengers. Between the flicks, the two become incredibly close, and it is undeniably romantic. The issue is that the audience does not witness the relationship develop. In the film Avengers: Age of Ultron, Natasha offers that they run away together. When did they come to that stage, again?
This romance is slammed to a halt in Avengers: Infinity War. Bruce and Natasha appear to be either hot and heavy and preparing to go away together, or they are exchanging one awkward hello. This is unfortunate since they could operate well together if there was a middle ground.

5. Bruce Banner And Betty Ross

The Incredible Hulk from 2008 may be the most annoying film in the MCU. Following the release of the film, Edward Norton was replaced as Bruce Banner with Mark Ruffalo. Much of The Incredible Hulk was forgotten, although it wasn't entirely. In The Incredible Hulk, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Infinity War, William Hurt plays General Ross. Betty Ross, Ross's daughter, is never mentioned again in the MCU. Marvel, where is the continuity?

6. Stephen Strange And Christine Palmer

Christine Palmer's relationship with Stephen Strange has some positive features, such as Christine's transformation from a comic book nurse to a film presence as a surgeon. Despite the fact that Stephen and Christine are coworkers, many critics saw Stephen's mansplaining procedures to Christine as a low point for the couple.
Some also objected to Oscar nominee Rachel McAdams being cast in a supporting love interest part that would be abandoned or reintroduced into the plot as needed. McAdams is deserving of a more meaty role.

7. Vision And Wanda Maximoff

It's possible to argue that Wanda's actions are always influenced by the males in her life. It's her brother's death in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Vision's impending death in Avengers: Infinity War. It's unclear whether Vision will be resurrected in Avengers 4. If that's the case, don't expect much more screen time for this stoic, serious couple, as Marvel doesn't know how to write for them.

8. Peter Quill And Gamora

Peter discovers Thanos killed Gamora in order to obtain the Soul Stone shortly after expressing their love for one other. Naturally, Peter learns of this just as the Avengers are set to take the gauntlet from Thanos. Thanos maintains the gauntlet and wipes off half of the galaxy because Peter reacts badly. Despite how nicely Gamora and Peter's friendship develops, some fans believe Gamora's death was exploited to advance the plot of a male character, similar to the women in the refrigerators trope. Gamora deservingly so.
