1. The Attack On His Convoy

After his convoy attacks Ten Rings, His own missile literally explodes in his face and he has almost died. Then doctor Ho Yinsen had to perform heart surgery and implant a car battery in his chest.
2. The Fight With His First Suit

He built the Iron Man Mark I after being forced to create weapons for the Ten Rings. Tony manages to fight and run out of the terrorist base then crash lands into the desert, leaving the armor in pieces. The impact should have probably severely injured, if not killed, Tony.
