Samuel L. Jackson, who played Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, is planning a return to the role of the formidable Jedi in the future. Jackson indicated his desire to reprise the role for The Mandalorian on a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, even though his character would be one-handed this time.
After being blown out of a window by Darth Sidious at the conclusion of Revenge of the Sith, Windu is assumed dead. Jackson, on the other hand, believes Windu is still alive out there with just one hand. “It’s the same way I think about the dude from Jurassic Park,” Jackson said. “He’s somewhere riding around on velociraptors with one hand. He’s just on that island riding raptors.”
Before you get too excited, keep in mind that there are currently no confirmed scheduled appearances for Jackson in the Star Wars world. “The only person I've ever said that to about coming back was Bryce Dallas Howard because I just did a movie with her, and she directs episodes of The Mandalorian,” Jackson explained. “So I go, ‘So you think you might be able to hook a brother up? I mean, you like me, right?’ And she’s like ‘I love you, you’re amazing.’ So put me back in, I’m ready. Put me in, coach. I’ll learn lightsaber lefthanded.”
Jackson even broached the subject of Mace Windu's fate with Star Wars creator George Lucas last year. "George is like, 'I'm okay with it,'" Jackson said. “You can be alive.”. Even while Jackson has Lucas' permission to make Windu's survival canon, it doesn't really matter because Lucas is no longer engaged in franchise choices.
At the very least, it sparks some fascinating discussion regarding Mace Windu's possible reappearance. Anything is conceivable if Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor reprise their roles as Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in the upcoming Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi.
