2022 should be the year that Avatar 2 hits theaters. After years of rumors running around and after Disney's acquisition of Fox, the film has been in development and is now just a few months away from its release.
There's not much information about the plot and the innovations that will be introduced in this movie, and the promotional material published is very little compared to other films as well. However, through some rumors, at least now we know when the first trailer will be released, if these rumors turn out to be true of course.
The choice may actually make sense, given that the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, has just earned nearly two billion dollars. This blockbuster is in fact the sixth highest-grossing film ever in the history of cinema, so the next MCU movie could be the best way to advertise James Cameron's work.
Currently, the first Avatar movie is still the highest-grossing film ever, also thanks to its revolutionary nature in terms of technologies used in 2009. The record was temporarily beaten by Avengers: Endgame, but the film then returned to theaters recovering its top spot.
It's not hard to see that there will be many difficulties for this upcoming sequel, especially enormous distance, in terms of time, from the first chapter.
Anyway, if Avatar 2 trailer actually arrives with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, that will be the moment when fans can get an idea of the film.
Avatar 2 will land in theaters on December 16.
