Meet Ashley, a 6-year-old pit bull who lives with firefighters in the New York City Fire Department (FDNY). She loves her life at the firehouse, and the firefighters also love her. She hangs out with them all day, and she even has her seat in the fire truck.

Before having a happy life at the firehouse, she was a poor dog neglected by her family. Her former owners hardly fed her, rarely took her outside and, in the end, they left her behind. Fortunately, Erica Mahnken, cofounder of No More Pain Rescue, and her fiance Michael Favor, rescued her and gave her a second chance at life. She was rescued in January of 2017 when she was 1 year old.Source: Probyash
The couple shared that Ashley's family abandoned her to find somewhere warm to stay. She had to fend for herself in a bad condition but still hoped that her owners would return to pick her up.Source: Probyash
"There was no electricity in the house — it was freezing. No food, no water for her. The house was a disaster. The windows were broken, and there was feces all over the place," Mahnken shared.Source: Probyash
Thankfully, when Favor and Mahnken found her, she was unharmed. She couldn't hide her happiness when Favor walked her out.Source: Probyash
"She came running down, super happy," Mahnken said. "She jumped straight into my car."Source: Probyash
Ashley was malnourished and needed a foster home to help her gain weight and heal her broken heart. For this reason, Mahnken and Favor asked the firefighters at (FDNY) if they would foster Ashley until they found her a proper home. Thankfully, the firefighting team agreed to keep Ashley.Source: Probyash
