Failed Resurrection: Matrix 4 Is Now A Box Office Disappointment

Matrix resurrection box office flop. So far, Matrix 4 has just collected under 23 million dollars at the US box office from its debut
As Sony continues to uncork bottles of champagne for Spider-Man: No Way Home which will soon become the highest-grossing film in the studio's history, at Warner Bros. executives are already licking their wounds for the flop of The Matrix Resurrections at the box office.
The fourth film in the Matrix saga conceived by the Wachowski sisters is in fact struggling at the international box office, to say the least. It has been evidently crushed by the popularity of the new Spider-Man movie, but that's not all. So far, The Matrix Resurrections has just collected under 23 million dollars at the US box office from its debut, which took place five days ago.

The total receipts of Matrix Resurrections rise to 66.7 million dollars if we look at the international box office, which is lacking many notable countries (in Italy and China, for instance, the film has yet to be released). However, it is useless to deny that Warner Bros. expected a greater response from the public for the movie, which was released right at the moment when the cinemas seemed to have returned to full capacity thanks to the proceeds of Spider-Man.
The resurrection of Neo and The Matrix, directed by Lana Wachowski, therefore did not go as hoped. It should be remembered that in the USA, Matrix Resurrections was also launched simultaneously on HBO Max just like many other Warner Bros. films in 2021 like Godzilla vs. Kong or Space Jam: A New Legacy for example, and that distribution strategy has certainly affected the final result. However, such low numbers at the box office are indeed a huge disappointment for big projects like Matrix 4.

Now, we just have to wait for the Italian release (which is set for January 1, 2022) to find out if Matrix Resurrections will be able to the tables thanks to the international box office.
In addition to Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss in the iconic roles of Neo and Trinity, The Matrix Resurrections also stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Christina Ricci, Telma Hopkins, Eréndira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Brian J. Smith, and Jada Pinkett Smith.
