After the release of the Zootopia movie in 2016, Disney made a huge profit when the film became a box-office hit. Of course, Disney couldn't miss the heat from this movie so they decided to start making sequels to the movie. Yes, you're not mistaken, "plural" sequels, because they plan to deploy both Zootopia 2 and Zootopia 3.
You're probably thinking that this is an official announcement from Disney, but it's not. This information came from one of the actors, Tommy "Tinny" Lister (Finnick's voice actor), at the recent fan meet & greet. The video in which he was discussing it was immediately taken down, but not quickly enough to prevent the excited supporters from spreading the news.
This actor's share is as follows: "I can tell you for sure I'm doing another Zootopia with Disney. We are doing three of them… We are the biggest film that Disney is producing. The last one was 240 million. This one I'm hearing will be 300 million. That's what they spent on the budget, not the advertising. But the movie made 2.6 billion, with merchandising and the box office.” Surely Tommy accidentally leaked secret Disney information. But that's okay, fans love it!
While Walt Disney Studios has yet to verify this report, we have reason to believe it is correct. Although Zootopia did not end on a particularly cliffhanger, it did do so with a fully-established scenario and developed characters that give a lion-sized possibility for future episodes. It was also one of Disney's most popular animated films to date.
The film has an amazing 4.5x weekend-to-final multiplier, which is one of the longest in recent memory for a wide release, with $336 million domestic (and not quite dead yet). It was in the top ten for 13 weeks in a row, trailing only Avatar (14 weeks) and Frozen (16 weeks) among all films released in the recent decade.
Zootopia isn't finished with the Walt Disney Company, either. At Shanghai Disney Resort, a Zootopia-themed park is currently being built. However, one has to question how the coronavirus outbreak in China will affect the construction of the site. The theme park, as well as the entire resort, remain closed due to the lack of formal news from Disney.
