Comics are one of the best mediums for artists to express themselves and their thoughts. An artist who goes by the name "Yaplaws Comics" on social media is no different when he uses this kind of art form to share his thoughts, mental health, and everyday life around him. He constantly posts his comics on Instagram under the name "Yaplaws Comics." So, let's see what is special about this artist's comics.
Artist Yaplaws made his comic debut in 2018. When he was a child, he loved comics and read all sorts of traditional comics. However, as an adult, he prefers alternative comics like Chris Ware, Seth, Gabrielle Bell, the Hernandez Brothers, Jeffrey Brown, and even Edward Gorey - not a comic artist.
When asked about the reason why the creator makes comics, he revealed: "I make comics as a means to express feelings and questions that I don’t know how to ask in another way. My comics are not necessarily about making readers smile. I always hope to connect with them on a deep emotional level. It also helps to create things others can relate to." Therefore, you may find yourself in his drawings.
As the author shared, he was a prolific artist since he used to make around 10 comics per day at the beginning of 2018. Do you know? He's so busy with drawing and barely sleeps. Nonetheless, the number dropped later - one or two comics daily now. "I typically get up and ride to the coffee shop in the wee hours of the morning. I take a few hours to write and draw my comic in ProCreate on my 2nd Gen iPad Pro," adds Yaplaws.
In the art journey, artists sometimes feel unmotivated or just burnt out, so what keeps Yaplaws making art? The man advises those who might be stuck in their art journey: "don’t have to learn how to draw. Just p out how you draw and keep doing that...Not all comics are going to find that audience, but they should keep going and make it with no expectation of reward and feedback. As long as you keep making art, you will get better and have a treasure chest of work to use how you want down the road." So, just do it, young artists!
