20 Illustrations Prove That Speech Bubbles Can Tell Their Own Stories Without Words

Jeffrey Murphy

Speech bubbles have been a staple in comics, cartoons, and illustrations for years. But what if these bubbles could speak for themselves, without the need for any actual words? That's exactly what tangyauhoong wanted to explore in a series of illustrations. The artist spent hours brainstorming and sketching before finally coming up with the perfect concept. She let their pencil do the thinking, allowing their quirky and weird thoughts to take center stage. And although it can be challenging to break away from a consistent style, the artist knew the importance of doing something different.
For this project, tangyauhoong found solace in the quiet environment of her creative space, using this as a way to relax and recharge. Even when faced with creative blocks, the speech bubbles project never failed to surprise and motivate her to keep pushing forward. In just thirty minutes, the artist completed a drawing that was able to tell a story and convey a message, all without the use of actual words. And although the brainstorming and sketching process took much longer, it was all worth it in the end.
