On hair with natural length or even fake ends, this look looks fantastic.“Hair extensions are great for adding volume and creating a smooth finish for this kind of topknot,” explains François.
- Sweep hair up high and pin it into a topknot while holding it in place with a hairband.
- He suggests removing face-framing hairs with care and softly misting them with a little styling product.
#2 Hailee Steinfeld

Heitkotter advises starting with a very high ponytail at the top of your head for a Hailee Steinfeld-inspired knot.- “While pulling the hair up, apply the serum. This combination will give you the hold from a gel but the pliability of an oil,” she explains.
- After that, separate the ponytail into four halves and twist each one into a tiny bun.
- "As you’re twisting the sections, apply the same gel/oil combo throughout the entire length of the hair and secure with bobby pins. To get this shape, twist and secure the three bottom buns first, and secure the top bun last,” says Heitkotter.
- Apply a flexible-hold hair spray to complete the appearance.
#3 Halle Berry

Thanks to the asymmetrical bangs that frame Halle Berry's face, her topknot is both artistic and elegant—and just a little bit casual.- Pull your hair back into a ponytail and divide it into two portions of the same size. Each part should receive a drop of serum to keep the hair lustrous and smooth.
- Take a section of hair in each hand and twist them together to form a single piece.
- At the base of the ponytail, take the twisted hair and wrap it around the elastic, pinning it in place as you go.
#4 Janelle Monae

Add some glitz to a simple topknot with cute embellishments.- To make a topknot, proceed as usual by putting your hair up in a high ponytail and wrapping the ends around the base before tying them to your head.
- Attach hair crystals to the style throughout.
#5 Jennifer Lopez

Vaccaro advises wetting hair at the roots and blow-drying from roots to mid-shaft with a soft-bristle brush to produce J.Lo's knot.- “Use Sérum to smooth your roots back while gathering hair into a pony,” he says. “When securing with an elastic, don’t pull the hair through the last loop. Taking the tail of the loop, divide it into two even sections.”
- The tail should then be tightly tied around the loop, according to Vaccaro, with bobby pins used to secure and style the hair at the base.
- Take your fingers and search your hairline for "airy, organic baby hairs" as the last step.
#6 Kendall Jenner

Using a top-notch collection of cosmetics is the secret to pulling off this look.- Flat iron the hair after first preparing it with heat protection.
- Hair should be parted down the center and pulled up high at the crown of the head.
- Heitkotter advises creating an undone texture by scraping through the sides of the hair before fastening.
- "Twist the pony from the base to mid-shaft, form a loop, and secure with pins, leaving the ends out. Finish by applying Finishing Crème to ends for added texture.”
#7 Kirby Howell-Baptiste

This dramatic, stylish double-bun is a ballerina-inspired variation of the style.- Make a medium-height ponytail with your hair and secure the base with an elastic.
- With the length left out and loose, take the ends and loop them once. Secure with pins.
- Create a second bun on top of the first by taking the remaining hair and wrapping it once more on top. Set pins to tighten.
#8 Lea Michele

The unique center section gives this appearance a polished but still contemporary feel.- Giovanni Vaccaro, the creative director of Glamsquad, advises sectioning out a horseshoe segment at the front of the hair to get Michele's knot. “Take the rest of the hair and pull it into a tight and smooth high pony,” he directs.
- “Twist the ponytail in the same direction from base to end, wrapping into a circular motion around the base of the elastic.”
- Then, Vaccaro instructs, go back to the horseshoe piece and make a neat central part.
- To conceal any pins, wrap the ends around the bun last.
#9 Paz Vega

Sleek, face-framing bangs are added to Paz Vega's topknot.- Pull hair back into a high ponytail for this look, then fasten it with an elastic.
- With your hair covering the elastic, wrap the ends of the ponytail around it, and bobby pins it in place.
- To straighten bangs and loosen some hair around the face, use a straightener.
#10 Rooney Mara

The following advice is provided by hairstylist Kristin Heitkotter for a different topknot à la Mara.- At the crown of the head, pull your hair into a high ponytail. The stylist advises, “Loop hair forward as if you’re going to create a half bun and leave the ends hanging out."
- Add a hair item and secure it with bobby pins.
- Don't forget to use a powerful hair spray to set the style.
#11 Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Matt Fugate, a hairstylist in Seattle, asserts that while the knot's location is crucial, its appearance is not.- “Make sure the knot is high up and creates lift in the profile," He claims. That entails putting on a high ponytail and tying a knot at the end of the ponytail.
- "Then, bind with a tight bungee and [move] the hair around it to create the sort of imperfect, effortless French girl hair look.”
#12 Sandra Oh

Using a bun shape simplifies this style (i.e., hair donut or sock bun).- Make a high ponytail with your hair.
- Roll your ponytail down after putting it into the bun's middle. Apply elastic to the bun form and brush the hair over it. Leave out one section.
- The loose section should be wrapped around the form, completely covered in hair, and pinned in place.
#13 Thandiwe Newton

Fugate claims that the preparation of the product and the location of the knot are both essential to an undone topknot like Thandiwe Newton's.- “For product prep, you have to load hair with a texturizing product to create this desirable, dry texture without a ton of shine,” he explains. “Anytime I’m going to do a topknot look, I load the hair up with this before pulling it into the bun.”
- Then, carry out the usual topknot procedures by pulling the hair into a ponytail, wrapping the ends around, and fastening them to the head.
#14 Yara Shahidi

Vernon François, a famous hairstylist based in the UK, advises spritzing a leave-in conditioner on dry hair before attempting to replicate Shahidi's twisted topknot.- He says to divide the area "from one eyebrow arch to the crown of your head, then from ear to crown, then in-between the two."
- François suggests twisting (from the hairline upward to the ends) and then dabbing with styling gel to create two pieces out of this.
- “Section hair at the front to frame the face,” he says. “Slick the rest up high, braid, twist into a bun, and then wind the two smaller braids around its base and pin in place.”
- Twist the front area of your hair, then use a styling cream to smooth the back and sides.
#15 Zendaya

Chic enough for day or night, this topknot is loose and intentionally disheveled.- François starts by applying a heat protectant to the hair before using a hairdryer to blast mousse into the dry hair.
- “Rake hair upward with your hands and fingers into a high ponytail, then twist and pin hair section by section loosely into a bun with U pins,” he says. “Tease out strands around the hairline and from the bun using the end of a carbon tail comb or your fingertips.”
- Hair spray can be used to complete the appearance.
