Nowadays, the Internet gives a perfect chance for comic artists to show their skills. As you see, there are millions of comics on social media, and everyone seems to fight for a ray of sunlight in the comic world. However, Ricky Hawkins doesn't fit that bill. This artist is a modest and down-to-earth guy, who creates excellent comics and updates them on his Instagram account named “Inky Rickshaw Comics” weekly. There isn't any pretense to what he does, and everything made stems from his passion for drawing comics.
Ricky started drawing comics in 2018. And along with his teaching work, he does comics in his free time. The artist says he makes comics based on the usual traps and scenes you see in shows and movies. However, he presents them as his own twists and jokes to separate them all. And that’s how "Inky Rickshaw Comics" was born. Ricky also covers many topics of dark humor, such as social awkwardness, relationships, and death in his comic strips, which is amusable for his readers.
The comics are everything but ordinary and simple. Reading Ricky's works, most people will be attracted by the stories illustrated nicely and the jokes set up well with unexpected and clever twists. Also, the visual style of Ricky's comics is easy to distinguish. That's why they gathered a big family of 34.6k fans on Instagram.
At present, the artist is looking for more opportunities to create even more comics. He spends many hours on each comic, but this work doesn't help him earn much money. To him, the comic is more of a passion project and exercise than a business. Asked for advice to new artists, this man shares: "the most important thing is to just consistently create work, even if you aren't always proud of it. Making bad art is the first step to making good art, and it takes time!" So, if you want to be a comic artist, let's practice more.
