Released this June, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a long and intriguing roller coaster of emotion from one dimension to another in the vast Multiverse, and even after a month of premiering, the value it brings still hit us hard right in the feels. Following Miles Morales’s footsteps into the Multiverse to stop the new menace named The Spot, the animated film features many emotional, hilarious, and mind-boggling sequences that keep delivering.
One of the best aspects of the movie, the dialogues, however, are criminally underrated compared to the others. The wonderful scriptwriting and the voice actors’ immense talent have brought out the best in the movie’s conversations, and resulted in some epic and memorable quotes that are still imprinted into the audience’s mind until this day. For now, why don’t we take a look at these 10 most iconic quotes from Across the Spider-Verse that never fail to impress us no matter how many times we have rewatched the movie.
#1. “In every other universe, Gwen Stacy falls for Spider-Man. And in every other universe, it doesn't end well.” Gwen Stacy.

These two sentences of Earth-65 Spider-Woman can be summed up in one word: Heartbreaking. We know Gwen has been through a lot in the movie: doesn’t fit in, lost her best friend at a young age, and then has her own father turned away from her. It pains us to see her pushing Miles away with these sentences, but Gwen has her reasons.
We all know that multiple versions of Gwen Stacy in both the comics and Movies end with a tragic fate, which often results in her death. Earth-65 Gwen knows about this, and she has to say this to protect herself from the occurrence of the canon events, but Miles has some other ideas.
#2. “There’s a first time for everything.” Miles Morales.

This sentence pretty much tells us about Miles’ personality: brave, fearless, and always looking on the bright side of things. He doesn’t get discouraged from hearing Gwen’s earlier statement, but instead even comforts her that everything’s going to be alright. You can’t expect a better answer in that situation.
#3. "Wherever you go from here, you have to promise to take care of that little boy for me. Make sure he never forgets where he came from. And never doubts that he's loved. And never lets anyone tell him that he doesn't belong there." Rio Morales.

Both Rio and Jeff can be too overprotective sometimes, but it’s because they truly love and dote on Miles from the bottom of their heart. It’s always hard to let your children go so they can embark on their own adventure, but Rio handles her worry and anxiety like a champ. She knows that she can’t be with Miles forever, so she gives him a little pep-talk with her son in this scene, and speaks these heartfelt words. Truly a moment touching enough to make us shed a tear.
#4. “I never found the right band. So I started my own.” Gwen Stacy.

Spider-Gwen said this nerve-tingling quote when she was rallying up a team to save Miles in Earth-42, which consists of familiar faces from the first movie like Peter B. Parker or Spider-Ham, and some new additions such as Hobie Brown or Pavitr Prabhakar.
This line alone shows how Gwen has grown since the start of the movie. Instead of adjusting herself to fit better with the others, Gwen now has accepted being the odd one out and instead forms a new group of her own that she trusts and feels comfortable around. Let’s see what Gwen’s new team is capable of in Beyond the Spider-Verse.
#5. “Chai tea? Chai means ‘tea’, bro! You are saying ‘tea tea’! Would I ask you for a ‘coffee coffee’ with room for ‘cream cream’?” Pavitr Prabhakar.

Easily one of the most hilarious lines in Across the Spider-Verse. Pavitr is clearly very passionate about his country’s culture, and it’s easy to understand why he gets so agitated after hearing Miles accidentally say “chai tea”. The way he delivers the punchline though, is peak comedy.
#6. “Miles, being Spider-man is a sacrifice. You have a choice between saving one person and saving every world.” Miguel O’Hara.

While Miguel’s method might be a bit extreme to some people, it’s undeniable that his actions are for the greater good. Having made a grave mistake in the past himself, Miguel knows full well that in order to maintain the Multiverse balance, you have to make some sacrifices. This sentence of his also bodes well with Tobey Maguire’s line in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man: “With great power comes great responsibilities.”
#7. "The power of the Multiverse in the palm of my hand!" The Spot.

At the start of the movie, few would think The Spot can actually cause some damage to Miles and the Spider Society, but what he has become in the end is far greater than everything we have expected. This sentence in particular, has summed up everything we need to know about Jonathan’s power, as he can now traverse between dimensions at will, can cause glitches and anomalies anywhere he set foot, and can even cause a universe’s peril at his full potential. All the more reasons to see how Miles and his friends will stop this formidable villain in the next entry.
#8. “Let me guess, he died?” Ezekiel Sims.

It’s a pretty hilarious scene in Across the Spider-Verse, considering how Ezekiel and his Spider-Patient get interrupted immediately afterward by Miles Morales and the other variants. However, when we think about it, it’s also quite tragic to see Spider-Man has to experience his uncle’s death in every other universe, and they’re so devastated to the point that Miguel has to hire a therapist for all of his fellows.
#9. “Can this day get any damn weirder?” Miles Morales.

The funny thing behind this line lies in what happens next. As Miles blurted out this sentence, Spider-Rex (Pter Ptarker) immediately proved him wrong by swinging in dramatically and almost biting him in half. A classic cartoon comedy troupe that never fails to catch the audience off guard.
#10. “Everyone keeps telling me how my story is supposed to go. Nah. I'm-a do my own thing.” Miles Morales (again)

Once again, Miles has shown how unique and different he is compared to Miguel O’Hara and all the other Spider variants. Instead of choosing between saving his father and the universe, Miles chose to do both at the same time. Some might call the protagonist foolish, greedy, and selfish for this choice, for me, it shows that Miles always thinks outside of the box, always try to forge his own path, and never gives up under any circumstances. Such is a much-needed quality of a superhero.
