Adam Sandler's Murder Mystery 2 Marks A Big Career Change

With the release of Netflix's Murder Mystery 2 just around the corner, Adam Sandler appears to be taking his career on a slightly different path. The comedian is well-known for his roles in films ranging from iconic comedies like Billy Madison to rom-coms like 50 First Dates and even dramas like Uncut Gems. Sandler's move into dramatic acting marked a major shift in his career, and the Murder Mystery sequel could signal a similar shift.

The first Murder Mystery, starring Sandler and Jennifer Aniston as a couple attempting to rekindle their marriage on a European cruise, was released in 2019. However, the pair is swiftly accused of murder and must devise an escape strategy. Although the film did not fare well with reviewers or audiences, Adam Sandler's Murder Mystery 2 will be released in March 2023. It continues the tale of Sandler and Anniston as they become private investigators and are tasked with investigating the disappearance of a close friend.

#1. Murder Mystery 2 Trailer.

If you have been waiting all this time for the Murder Mystery 2 trailer then your patience has paid off. Netflix just released the official trailer for the mystery comedy, and it will blow you away. And that’s not just because Ariana Grande, Jessie J, and Nicki Minaj’s “Bang Bang” plays in the background of the trailer video. The clip opens with a van crashing into a café, with a clueless Nick and Audrey popping their heads out of a broken window. The clip then shows the Spitzes heading to the destination wedding of the Maharaja, the scenes change into a picturesque island and the colorful setting of a lavish Indian wedding, unfortunately (for them) punctuated by a dead body.
From there on, it only gets crazier, wilder, and funnier. As is the trend with this couple, their vacation, once again, turns into a disaster. The only difference this time will be that Nick and Audrey will be working with a few familiar faces and not-so-friendly new faces. But other than that, you can expect the same kind of comical action, high-speed chases, and a whole lot of comedy of errors like the first movie in the upcoming sequel.

#2. Why Murder Mystery 2 Is So Different From Adam Sandler?

Adam SandlerSource: Screen Rant

Murder Mystery 2 is a departure from Sandler's usual practice of avoiding sequels to his features. There have only been two Sandler sequels: Grown Ups and Hotel Transylvania. Sandler's choice to continue these series makes sense given their popularity, but other factors are likely to have played a role as well. Sandler got to make a film with his real-life pals in Grown Ups, and Hotel Transylvania may have been easier because it's an animated franchise. Despite appearing in the previous three films, Sandler will not return for Hotel Transylvania 4, demonstrating how uncommon it is for him to take on sequels.

Sandler has not publicly stated why he decided to create Murder Mystery 2. Because the film did not perform as well as some of Sandler's previous films, it does not appear to be an obvious option for a Sandler sequel. Perhaps as part of his contract with Netflix, Sandler and the company agreed that a Murder Mystery sequel would benefit both parties. With renewed interest in murder mysteries such as Knives Out and Glass Onion, Sandler's latest sequel is almost definitely an effort to capitalize on the trend in a more comedic manner. However, there's a possibility that Murder Mystery 2 is an attempt by Adam Sandler to change his career.

#3. How Murder Mystery 2 Could Be Great For Sandler?

While Murder Mystery 2 is just one of many films Sandler has in the works this year, it could be a wonderful career move for the actor and producer. The first Murder Mystery drew 30 million viewers in its first weekend, breaking the previous mark for Netflix original movies (per Deadline). The sequel is likely to draw at least some of the audience that enjoyed the first, with the potential to shatter more Netflix records.

Furthermore, if Murder Mystery 2 is a hit, Sandler may make more sequels in the future. This would be a major departure from Sandler's previous career decisions and could benefit him greatly by satisfying long-time fans while also capitalizing on the current wave of the '90s and '00s nostalgia. Sandler's continued collaboration with Netflix could take his career in a completely new direction, depending on how Murder Mystery 2 performs.
